I will generally score on a story but only comment if it really inspires me to say something. I can't see myself commenting without scoring. A story that I didn't feel like scoring likely wouldn't inspire any comments, either. As a writer, though, I prefer comments to simple scores. They at least say something about what the person liked.
I checked the other day and discovered I'd scored just seven stories in the last two years. Most of them were first time authors or people I felt had been unfairly voted down. They were all 5s.
I've said before that votes are pretty meaningless. 5/5 for what exactly? Being perfect literature? For effort? For being a friend?
Comments on the other hand are like birthday cards. Intrinsically worthless with a clichéd message but they still give you a warm glow inside.
Warning: The opinions above are those of an anonymous individual on the internet. They are opinions, unless they're facts. They may be ill-informed, out of touch with reality or just plain stupid. They may contain traces of irony. If reading these opinions causes you to be become outraged or you start displaying the symptoms of outrage, stop reading them immediately. If symptoms persist, consult a psychiatrist.
Why not read some stories instead
NEW! Want a quick read for your coffee break? Why not try this... Flash Erotica: Scrubber I score accordingly , never giving less than a 5 cause I really enjoy/love it. Am touched deeply by it.
I don't give them automatically because I know the person.
And emailing me angrily demanding to know if I gave you a 4 is ridiculous.
I love to comment. Feedback is always great..
I can only speak for myself in that I have, until recently, only commented without leaving a score because numbers are so inadequate as a medium to express thoughts and feelings. I did start leaving a score recently though when I realized the authors often liked it when we the readers do so.
