I read somehting intersting on this recently. I forget who said it, but it went along the lines of: Everyone will hurt you one day. You must choose who you are willing to suffer for. -- This act of selflessness is only possible when you love someone.

Now, there are many levels and nuances of love - Friendships, familiy, partner. But the bottom is simple and common amongts the three -- To choose to put someone else´s needs or wants before yours and not expect anthing is return is love.

there are different types of love : family , friends, hell I love my car , my pets , but as to love towards a partner , I think its when your 'everything ' is freely and totally given to someone , trust , selflessness, hope, caring, worrying.......... and I haven't scratched the surface but I think that sums it up well.

Bob Marley said that

'You must choose who you are willing to suffer for'-
I don't know, I have a problem with this statement... You'll only end up hurting yourself in the end... 'love should be equal'.... I guess it depends on your interpretation on what 'hurt' is.... but I can't be bothered expanding cos I'm a little tipsy

One thing I have not seen on here, though it has sort of been alluded to, is that there is a difference between LOVING someone and being IN LOVE with someone. Parents and children love one another. Friends love each other. Other family members love each other. It is a different hing than being in love with someone you choose to spend your life with. To me, finding the person you want to be with, physically, mentally, emotionally: the one you want to share all the good things that happen in your life with, and they with you; and the one that you know will stay by your side, support and cherish you even if bad things happen and you with them; the one that you would change their diapers, bathe and feed them if it came to that, and they would do the same. That is love and being in love. But that description just scratches the surface.

It is the person who becomes your everything, yet wants you to be everything you can. the person who with just a touch or a word can melt your heart and your soul. The person who is always on your mind. The one you can fight with and still know they love you at the end of the day. Love is not always forever. It is the same, yet constantly changing, growing. It is strong yet flexible. And it is different for everyone. You may not be able to define it, but you know it when you see it.
