Hey all,
I'm fairly new to writing full length stories and I'm looking for some advice. I enjoy writing long, slow-burn stories but I think I'm losing my readers because of the length and lack of real sexual engagement. There's plenty of teasing and such but no hardcore scenes. One of my problems that I'm aware of and working on, is that I take way too long between publishing chapters and I'm sure that plays a big part.
My question is, are readers willing to read through a longer story, with the real naughty stuff coming later, as long as all the chapters are available immediately? Or do I need to cut down on my length regardless? For example, my current story is about 9,000 words over 3 chapters. Theres been plenty of heated moments but no climax so to say.
Any advice is appreciated.
My personal preference are stories about 3000 words or less but if the story is well written the length becomes immaterial. I don't have a lot of time to read so shorter stories are more appealing. If you are breaking a 9000 word story into 3 separate chapters that would definitely work for me. If your slow burn is good I'll enjoy it as much as the actual sex itself. A good Flash that's sex from the word go is great but I like stories that develop naturally and build the characters.
I never read stories on Lush that are over 5,000 words. If there is no sex until 5,000 words, I’ve lost total interest.
I only read stories that are longer from professional authors that I like.
I myself don’t write stories over 5,000 words unless it’s a series but I write the chapters quick and don’t leave my fans waiting too long.

I wrote a Lushstories' maximum 10,000 word story that's probably 4/5s about one sexual interlude. Yes, close to 8,000 words of it are on one long fuck session.
And guess what? It's got over 76,000 views, a very long list of comments, and was voted an Editor's Pick Award. So, anything is possible, especially if you love doing it and give it everything you've got.
Length of your story is inverse to the myth of cock size.
A shorter story may attract more views right off, as it is a quick read, but a well written longer tale will tend to be far more successful than a quickie as the plot has time to develop properly. My most successful stories are all over 7000 words and some right at 10000.
Length doesn't matter. How you write it does.
3000 words is the right length for me
