Last time I was on this site I had a friend who was a Dominatrix in a committed BDSM relationship. She hated 50 Shades as she said it was an abusive relationship masquerading as BDSM. I trusted her judgement so that kind of put me off.

Yes, its the characters individual status in society that makes me wonder about the true power dynamics and motivations.

Nice to learn about the franchise.

Have yet to read or see the films. Once I read that the plot was a copy of the twilight saga, it put me off. Also maybe my socialist's leaning. smile

If you get round to it, watch the films first.
That way, it only gets better!

This is the earliest book I recall reading. Late 70s, early 80s.

Same, except in the 90s. Either that one or Little Birds- can't remember which I happened on first. Learned... a lot.

I think I, like a lot of young people my age, discovered the sex scenes in the James Herbert horror books.

Yeah. I recall reading a certain passage in the Rats more than a few times. I also found several scenes in Piers Anthony's Firefly that really turned me on in the days before freely available porn on the internet. But if we're talking an actual full-on erotic novel, I discovered The Story of O on a book shelf while babysitting a neighbor's kid.

Don't believe everything that you read.

Piers Anthony's

His erotic proclivities got problematic as time goes on, or so I have heard, but I think there was at least one good hot scene in his Ox/Orn/Omnivore trilogy, which is an early s-f work.

I often had fantasies based on the hints of sexuality we got in mainstream media properties back then. Starbuck with Cassiopeia and Athena in the original Battlestar Galactica comes to mind. There was like one love scene with Apollo and Cassiopeia in the movie and pilot (brought to an unceremonious end by an angry Athena), but the whole love triangle with them had hints that my mind picked up on and ran with at times.

Minnie's Merry Mall Christmas

My mother was reading Harold Robbins' books. There were some very erotic scences in his books. Of course she didn't knew I was reading them.

No, you're fine. I've edited where necessary. But thanks smile

I was babysitting. The child was asleep. I was bored so I browsed through their library and found “A Man with a Maid”. I haven’t stopped reading erotica since.

That is entirely accurate. There’s a film called ‘The Secretary’ about a BDSM relationship with a boss named Mr. Grey… came out a few years prior to 50 Shades being written.

How that got through without raising any eyebrows I don’t know but if your looking for a film depiction closer (still a bit problematic) that’s far superior.

This movie was with Maggie Gyllenhaal, and like you, I never figured out how it didn’t make any waves.

Have you dressed up as a maid ever? ;)

Fair enough. It's been ages since I've read him, and let's just say that my perspective on those problems has matured considerably from when I first encountered his work, and now they're far more of a turn-off than they used to be.

Don't believe everything that you read.

I can't remember what they were called, but they were two Black Lace books that were included as a free gift in a magazine I bought in the mid 1990s. I was flying to Canada on tour and didn't realise what they were until I was on the plane. I didn't dare read them until I was away from the rest of the group, but let’s just say the experience was something of a revelation!

I can't remember much about them but I seem to remember they were historical mini novels. One scene of a woman being secretly watched enjoying a slow, leisurely fuck particularly stood out.

I was so naive, I had no idea such books existed and was shocked that they would be included in a mainstream women’s magazine! 🤣

I grew up fairly poor, so no internet, no cable TV, etc. However, my mother has an addiction to Romance novels, so I inherited her trove of housewife smut. I can still hear her. "Oh, Kryssi, you just have to read this one; it's steaming hot. I bent down the corners of the first pages of all the best sex scenes in case you want to flick the bean."

Am I a good witch, or a bad witch? History will decide

The erotic adventures of Emmanuelle Arsan

Laid on my parents bed. eyes hungrily devouring this filth was for me ( I was a very precocious reader) the ultimate activity. I read that book so many times over the years and it was much more descriptive than the films .

Apart from the odd Harold Robbins or Jilly or Jackie C nothing came close until a copy of adventures of a schoolboy/the new epicurean was discreetly passed around at school and that was another good helping of filth n fuckery.

Wow, Emmanuelle Arsan wrote a lot. Did not realize the "Emmanuelle", was linked to the her work.

Earlier I mentioned James Herbert but I've just remembered finding my Dad's (at least I presume it was Dad's) stash of Confessions books. My memory of them was that they were a bit like a raunchier version of a Carry On film in book form.

In this microstory a page turner of a novel leaves the reader gasping for more. https://www.lushstories.com/stories/microfiction/the-bookshop-2

I think one of the first scenes in the book tells of her flight to meet her husband in thailand ?

She plays under a blanket in first class with An older businessman type and though i've never completed watching one , I think one of the movies starts with the same scene.

It was . I couldn’t believe how I almost had a heart attack when the precocious girl was keen on sex for her young age. I came on myself reading this book hidden in my Grandmothers sewing basket. Wow!

'Last Exit To Brooklyn' by Hubert Selby Jr. I bought it from a second-hand bookstore near Victoria railway station. One should always have something exciting to read on the train.

Penthouse Forum letters, just discovered around the time I hit junior high. Were they bullshit? Didn't care. So are most Lush stories, including mine. Still don't care.

Also around that time, a neighbor kid lent me an erotic novel set in "the wilds" of Africa. Something about visiting a tribe and participating in their evening fireside rituals. Oh, and also fucking Black guys with big cocks. Biggest turn on for me was a lesbian scene involving a character named (not sure why I remember this) "Hedy." Even then the story seemed more BS than the PF letters, but that lesbian action, possibly the first one I ever red, just about blew my mind, not to mention several adolescent loads.

Never had the slightest interest in Fifty Shades. Dominance, submission, bondage, humiliation, control, power dynamics, whatever you want to call them, are active turnoffs for me. Mutual respect and affection, finding some kind of human connection that makes you want to fuck, those are what turn me on. Guess I'm kinda straitlaced even if I'm not totally straight.

Now The Secretary, I remember hearing about that one. Same issue with the premise, but I'd be tempted to watch it just for Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The Happy Hooker. The local Target had a copy. I would read a few pages at a time over several weeks.
