I read that book and almost wished I hadn't. I am a big Warren Zevon fan, and however much one tries to keep an artist's personal life separate from his art, it always seems to sneak in. Now, I almost try to remain ignorant of the personal lives of writers and composers whose work I admire. Learning that Zevon was such a selfish prick didn't ruin his music for me - - I still like it a lot - - but now I see it through less of a fond lens.
One fun fact from the book - - Zevon said Eleanor Mondale gives the best blowjobs he ever experienced. I am sure Walter was really happy that tidbit is now in the public domain.

Ah, Moby Dick is one of my favorites. I think it is a great novel, and there is much more humor in it than what I expected. The only parts I got bored with and skimmed over were the technical parts about the ship.

I'll agree on that. Except I actually finished the book. Felt I had to as it was a gift.
Another I agree with is Lord of the Rings. Enjoyed the movies, enjoy the idea, just hard to read.
I got about halfway through the Obernewtyn series by Isobel Carmody and got distracted. I plan to finish it though. Someday.
The Crooked Letter by Sean Williams was just too strange to get through.
There's been a few I couldn't get through but I forget most of them.

ha! you stole my thunder! that said, the last few pages, Molly Blooms speech, was an amazing peice of writing, but it took me a year of struggling with the damn book to reach that part.

I would have to agree on the Lord of the Rings. I've tried several times and I just cannot finish the books. I have read the first 6 of the Harry Potter's and they were all far superior to the movies, but book 7.....I just cannot get past chapter 8. She was in far to much of a rush whether be personal or publisher pushed to finish the series and I think it shows in the last book.

I started reading Ulysees with Mahlersymphony and I'm also struggling. I like the inner thoughts of Mr Leopold Bloom he makes me laugh. I'm still at chapter two and I still am unsure what this book will be about???? I did a bit of research on this book and apprently James Joyce put lot's of criptic clues in the book. I also dislike the stop start of the short sentances that drives me mad as you can't get into the story as much.
