Living bi-cariously through Lush

Those are lazy folks, or got too much going in their lives.

Then the whole world is lazy. NO ONE ON EARTH has the time to get done everything that they want in life. We all have to pick and choose how we spend our time. To not do this is to lack executive functioning skills.

For I, one author out of thousands on this site, to demand that people read every one of my precious nine thousand words would be the height of self-importance. Not only is it not going to happen, it would be arrogant to insist on it. I'm not that important. Neither are you.

The cover maker here is so much worse than it used to be, seems they are forever making changes that make things far more difficult for members. As a platinum member i expect a lot more from this site.

The only saving grace is they aren't required, like [removed]. It's the only thing keeping me from writing there, and the funny thing is; I used the app they suggest to use, and the cover wouldn't meet the requirments. As far as here, my problem comes with adding words--it doesn't. Won't even activate the keyboard. Even with assist mode, or desktop mode.

Lemme clarify before you keep thinking I think I'm anywhere near a god my namesake may lend one to falsely believe. Because I know my station, sir, and it's the rundown bus station on the bad side of town.

Because that's a perfectly good reason for one to limit what they wanna read, especially if they're in the mood for a complete story. How you managed to miss that part, yet still made the same point, while trying to chastise me for self-importance that I don't have, is a quandary. No it isn't. You were just too hyped up on the first part and wanting to put me in my place. There's an or there for a reason, and the first part was facetious at best, even if there's an ounce of truth.

I'm not arrogant, but I can be "lazy" when it comes to reading something longer than a novelette. Or I may read a novel length story and see a ten paragragh forum comment and say; "nah, not reading that".

I am in the process of writing a new story, aiming for 1500-2000 words.

10,000 words is too long for me.

Maybe you're better suited to a picture book...Are you serious, too long...ohhh shit you've probably already lost interesy reading this...tooo long for you?

I've been writing erotica for 20.+ years. Currently, I have 133 stories posted on [removed]. Every one far exceeds the 10k limit of Lush. I don't believe an author can complete character development, setting description and write extensive descriptions of sex scenes in under 10k. I'm currently working on a story involving a bridesmaid and a wedding quest. The current chapter deals with the woman giving her lover oral sex while driving. I believe this chapter will exceed 20k word count. The reason is because I write extensive descriptions including the setting inside the car how the street lights illuminate her face and his cock. Yes, I could write “she throated his cock” but that doesn't describe how much effort she made just to get his cock inside her throat. I want my reader to feel like they are in the back seat watching a highly erotic deep-throat blowjob. I know a quickie story of 3 or 4k has a place but the longer stories do too. Thanks for reading my rather lengthy post. J D Robbins.

[removed] is my favorite site, with Lush being a close second. I have 124 stores (including some non-fiction) on [removed] and 72 on here. That said, over the years I have read relatively little of other authors work. (I apologize, guys!) If a scenario seems to be getting near the 10,000 word mark, I will look for a good break point and make it into a series. The longest stand-alone story I have on [removed] is over 11,000 words. I seem to be averaging around 5,000 words for a story or chapter now. [removed] seems to have a lot of very long stories. But, in the end, you have to make the call and hope the readers will follow you.

Perhaps it's a gimmick, but if there seems to be some break in the plot (a different day or even a different event on the same day), I will add a row of asterisks so the reader isn't facing walls of text. Once is a while I will put in bold-face section titles for the same reason. I guess these things represent gaps of time between whatever is being written about.

That's a lot, when all of us have dozens of stories in our Reading Queues and can't possibly get to them all. Once again, more succinctly: I'll read 10,000-word stories from time to time, but they had better be fucking literature.

Just read an 8000 word story, kept reading but not enough in it to make me feel I had spent my time wisely.

Whatever amount it takes to finish.

It's funny, because when I started, I wrote very short stories and had a few rejected here on Lush for being under 750 words. But my last few stories have all been in the 5000 word range.

As a reader, it depends on how "in the zone" I am. Sometimes, I'm looking to get RIGHT to the action, and I don't have the motivation to read a proper character arc and establishing scenes. Other times, I get frustrated with short fiction and wish the author had written more.

All that is to say, there's readers for every length. Let your story and characters dictate how much you write.

I rarely read a standalone story unless it's long. Plots of A randomly meeting B and having sex for no reason are nonsensical to me. I need to know why they got in bed together. It's the reason why I dislike most porn.

But, but, but, that's where I live.

(the short stories, not the porn)

How many words is the ideal amount for you keep you interested in reading a story ?

Unless all of the words are used according to the rules of grammar, there is no point in reading the story.

“Amount” is used for mass nouns, and “number” is used for count nouns. A mass noun is something that can't be counted in specific measurement units or is measured in bulk. A count noun is something that is easily counted through some unit of measurement.
