Also, WTF with the women's slopestyle comp last night. The wind was nuts. There's no way they should have been on that course. In most pro comps, the competitors are consulted beforehand, but officials didn't bother here. Given that the course is only in use for two days of the entire Olympics, and we're still in the early days, it's awful that they didn't postpone this. Those women were getting thrown around out there and it made the course super dangerous and inconsistent for all.
Still - congrats to Jamie Anderson (USA), Laurie Blouin (Canada), and Enni Rukajaarvi (Finland) for surviving the day to get the medals. Laurie Blouin suffered a horrible fall in training last week where she had to be stretchered off to the hospital and still had a black eye - getting silver is awesome.
But yeah - they should have postponed the event for sure, so everyone had a decent shot at giving it their best.
totally should have postponed - what were they thinking? the girls had to 'dumb down' their jumps just so they could finish the course. really disappointed by that. that said, congrats to Jamie, Laurie, and Enni, and everyone who competed. super love.
and on that, all hail Chloe Kim who, with the gold already won, went ahead and did a final run anyway and nailed a 98.25. the girl is fierce. i had chills just watching her. China's Jiayu Liu gave it her best, but no one could touch her. USA's Arielle Gold gave a strong performance to take silver. Sadly, another fav of mine, Maddie Maestro had an off day. She'll be back, tho, in 4 more years. And Kelly Clark took 4th, not bad considering how long she's been competing. A strong performance all around.
waiting for men's pipe now. Shaun White's swansong
