The Beverly Hills cop franchise is absolutely great, all three movies so freaking good. 48 hours, and the sequel isn't bad either. The new show Brooklyn nine-nine is OK, not great though.

I'll also second the mention of Barney Miller, though that was a gentler, wittier comedy than the Police Squad ones.

Sledgehammer was a rather good parody of the Dirty Harry "rogue cops with big guns" genre but the humour went a bit too over the top at times (IIRC, they ended the show by having the "hero" destroy the city).

You aren't technically dating yourself about Barney Miller. I've seen it and I'm 21. It has been coming on a station called antennae TV. I will agree that it is actually pretty funny.

Oh I saw it on the first run, not the re run but glad someone agrees with me. I love Antennae TV it is introducting all the old shows to a new generation and keeping the memories alive for us old folks.
