Guitar lovers, post pictures of your favorite guitars! Either standard ones, or ones with custom designs!

Black Gibson SG, my dream guitar :

I love these old fashioned Gretsch guitars too :

Cryptic Vigilante
My current guitars (same colors as displayed).

Godin SdXt (my favorite) :

Epiphone Special II, Seagull S6 CW, Norman B50 (12-strings) :

Wild at Heart
I'm partial to banjos. This would be my dream instrument. This is a $30,000 dollar fucking banjo. (Deering Gabriella 5-String)

Cryptic Vigilante
Banjos are fucking hard to play, apparently. But this one looks amazing.

Gibson Flying-V, hand painted by Jimi Hendrix :

Another guitar hand painted by Hendrix. This is actually the one he burned at the Monterey Festival (the one on the right is a replica) :

Custom carved guitars. I want one of these :

Cryptic Vigilante
The most expensive guitar ever. Auctioned to aid victims of the 2004 tsunami disaster, and sold for $2.8 million.

Signed by Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Brian May, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Pete Townsend, Paul McCartney, Ray Davis, Liam Gallagher, Mick Jagger, Mark Knopfler, Ronnie Wood, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Sting, Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Bryan Adams as well as the members of Def Leppard.

I volunteered to sign it too, but they refused.

Oh well, at least I can still sign boobies...

Cryptic Vigilante
Another nice Grestch guitar. Green is rare for a guitar, this one looks great :

This is a really cool picture...Fender used the same paints during the 50's and 60's as the car companies...as this picture clearly shows...

And while we're on the subject of guitars...this is a 1999 Les Paul DC I had made by the Gibson Custom shop...it's the first DC with three PU's btw...(two '57 Classics and a 500T in the bridge position)...Sperzel locking tuners, gold hardware, ebony board...a few other things I can't think of at the moment...

This is a Les Paul prototype I bought at Sam Ash in Edison...damn, I forget what the exact model is called at the moment...Les Pro Junior Pro IV, if I recall correctly...it was Gibson's attempt at a cheaper LP, and it actually kind of sucks...the bridge is a Steinberger, and really needs to go...but, you can get fixed bridge replacements now...just haven't done it yet...that's another story...

Nice guitars DirtyMartini!

Damn, out of curiosity, how much did you pay for that custom Les Paul, if you don't mind telling?

By the way, I just noticed something different than on my own Godin with this picture: my guitar actually has a humbucker at the neck position. I like this guitar for being a nice mix between Fenders and Gibsons (imagine a Stratocaster with humbuckers). I don't really use the tremolo, but can deal with it; it stays in tune.

It has a 5-way switch, but I had a guitar teacher who bought the exact same Godin model, and modified it so that every combination of pickups was possible (to use both humbuckers at once).

My stock Godin has these combinations possible:

My teacher added these to his guitar:

Thanks Serene P...and yeah, the guitars are absolutely gorgeous btw...the pictures really don't do them justice...

And I don't mind at all telling the story behind them, and yeah...if you think I went a bit nuts back in the late 90's...you just might be right...up until around that time, I really only had one guitar...an '83 Fender Stratocaster that I bought new...towards the late 90's, I got in a car accident where I was injured, and got an insurance settlement...I ended up spending all the money on guitars, pretty much anyway...though looking back, there were certainly a heck of a lot worse things I could have spent the money on...if you get my drift here...

Anyway, the first Gibson I bought was this one...it's a Custom Shop '54 Les Paul Custom re-issue...I believe it's a 1998, if I recall...could be a '97...it's actually in storage at the moment, but that's a whole other story...anyway, I believe this set me back $2300.00 or so...at the time, a regular Les Paul Standard was about $1500.00 or so, just to give you an idea...and I never owned a Gibson before, so this was a first for me...

Btw...these pictures I took on the "lawn" next to my condo where I lived were all taken in 1999, I believe...with an Exakta VXIIa camera from 1960/61...yeah, I collect Exakta cameras as well...something I've done like my whole adult life...

Anyway, yeah...I think I got the settlement just after I got that...I really loved the finish and feel of the Les Paul, but the fucker was heavy and the like...I started thinking about creating the ideal guitar, through the Gibson Custom Shop...the first one I ordered was the Trans Blue DC...pictured above...it set me back $4600.00...

Liked that so much, and yeah...the damn thing is absolutely gorgeous...I didn't stop after that...the next one I ordered was the red one pictured here...it is also the only DC ever made with three P-90's...or at least it was, last I heard...there was something different with the neck...anyway, it set me back $4900.00, being the most expensive of the three...and last, the white one, completed in 2001 was a mere $3800.00...cheaper mainly because of the opaque finish apparently...the white one has two 498R's and a 500T in the bridge position...note the multiple bindings, and parallegram inlays...it is basically sort of a LP Custom with two cutaways, though the electronics in my guitars is more complex...I have a push-pull switch on all three so I can get more pickup combinations, and the white one has an additional push pull switch for coil tap btw...

Here's a picture the factory sent me of the red one during production...I have other pics, but I can tell you that all three have similar looking tops under the finish...even the white one btw...

Anyway...if you have any other questions about them...feel free to ask...and thanks for your interest...

Cheers,
Alan.

Vintage SG in Red

I also own a limited edition Cordoba Koa CE, a gorgeous Portuguese acoustic.

Cool stuff guys.

Here's my amps setup (post yours too!):

2x separate Gallien Krueger 112. Each are powered by a 12" Celestion speaker, the very same speakers they use in Marshall amps. These are placed around 10' apart in my apartment , to create crazy stereo effects:

which are plugged into...

Gallian Krueger ML-P amplifier:

which is plugged into...

Digitech GSP 21-Pro digital processor. This processor comes with nearly 200 different setups, but I can create my own too with 23 different stereo effects (reverbs, echoes, delays, distortions, etc.). The possibilities really are endless. It's a bit dated (early 90s), but still works perfectly fine; it was worth around $1200 when it came out, but I paid mine $400 about 8 years ago. It comes with a foot controller too:

The very first time I hit a chord with this whole setup in my apartment, a picture frame fell on the floor, as well as my TV antenna which was held by suction cups.

Very serious.

This was recorded with a Digitech GSP 21-Pro (this isn't me):

that green Gretsch.........

SP - does GK specialize in bass amps, like that crazy old Sunn company?

DM - wise that you invested in those impressive axes.

Hah, you just made me realize that they do. I did a quick search and apparently GK discontinued guitar amps some time ago (I couldn't find the exact date, maybe in the early 90s).

Weird thing is, I bought my amp/cabinets in 2006 or so and they looked brand new (they still do). I don't even know for sure where they came from; basically it was a friend of mine who knew someone, who knew someone.

My friend bought them because he knew I was shopping for amps, and would have just sold them to someone else if I didn't take them (he bought them for a very cheap price, so reselling them with a profit would have been rather easy). I think a shop owner was implied in this bargain, like he was closing down his shop and was never able to sell those amps. I don't remember the exact details to be frank, I guess I was just too hyped about those amps to really bother about the story behind them.

My cabinets look exactly like this one. They're very rare to find (even around the web), and those I found were very used, like they survived decades of use. I probably own the only ones on this entire planet who still look brand new:

I know Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers uses Gallien Krueger amps for his bass. And one of their very first customers in the late 60s was Carlos Santana.

I've seen that guitar before, and always wondered if it was really usable. I mean, there's no fretboard on many of these strings. Apparently it is:

Here's Trey Gunn from King Crimson displaying his skills on the Warr guitar.

What's a Warr guitar you ask? You'll figure it out when you'll see it in this video. You might recognize the familiar sound of King Crimson too:

wow SP - the Metheny and Gunn was some doggone trippy shit....thank-you!

7 - can you play any BB King on the upper one? (usually who I think of when I see those)

speaking of that, (hopefully without derailing this thread too much), when I think of Rickys, I think of Geddy Lee:

In fact, BB King's legendary guitar (Lucille) was a Gibson ES-355:

George Harrison used to play Gretsch guitars extensively:

John Lennon played a Rickenbacker most of the time. George Harrison used those too, occasionally:

Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan are undoubtedly the 3 most popular Fender Stratocaster players. Both Hendrix and Clapton also used Gibsons in their early careers though.

Eric Clapton playing The Fool (Gibson SG), a guitar hand painted by a Dutch artistic collective, during his days with Cream (1966-1968). Clapton naturally has straight hair; guess who he was trying to imitate with his perm:

Not necessarily built to look fancy, I think Gibson Les Paul's are awesome, incredibly crafted.

Duane Allman's Gibson Les Paul

Jimmy Page's Gibson Les Paul
Active Ink Slinger
The main guitarist in my bands (for the last 17 years until last summer when I said fuck it I'm too old for this shit and sold my drums) used nothing but Les Pauls. Heavy, heavy, and more fucking heavy. For the past four years he was using the Les Paul Axcess, because of the wammy. He fed this through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and then a cab with 4 X 12" Celestions (might have been a Marshall?) and a single 15" bass cab.
Absolutely fucking crushing.

Love this thread. If I had time for one more hobby, it would be learning acoustic guitar.

I listen to a radio show up here in Canada called Vinyl Tap that's hosted by Randy Bachman, who played guitar in The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive. He has done whole shows just showcasing a specific brand of guitar and the guitarists who play it and usually brings a couple examples in from his own collection to demonstrate. Of course, on radio you can't see the guitar so now I can just pop into this thread.

A favorite instrument of mine, at least in the hands of Canadian blues-folk musician Harry Manx, is the Mohan Veena. Basically a hybrid of a slide guitar with traditional Indian string instruments like the sitar.
