What are your favorite horror movies. I am loosely interpreting horror to also include psychological thrillers.

I love everything from classic Hitchcock, old Vincent Price movies, 80's slasher, b movies as well as newer fare.

Psycho
The Birds
The Pit and the Pendulum
The Fall of the House of Usher
Halloween
Trick R Treat
Storm of the Century (Stephen King)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Saw
The Exorcist

I could go on and on but I'd really like to hear what other people enjoy. I need some new suggestions.

Alien
The Thing
The Shining
The Exorcist
The Descent
The Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Psycho

Oh well, adding them to my list:

The Night of the Demon ( 1957) is a beautifully crafted movie, and the forerunner for a lot of what followed. It is genuinely scary, as it plays on the mind as with it's dialogue as much as the pictures do.

The Haunting (1963 version)
Alien (1978)
Night of the Living Dead (1968 original, I'm generally not fond of the cannibal zombie genre but the movie that started it all gets a pass)
Carnival of Souls (1962, very creepy and Twilight Zone-ish)
Dracula (1931, not as scary anymore but still creepy and atmospheric)
Nosferatu (1922 silent, best vampire film ever, the 1979 sound remake by Werner Herzog is pretty good as well)
Halloween (1978, John Carpenter at his finest)
The Thing (1951 and 1982 versions, different takes on the same original story, both great horror, Carpenter again with the 1982 version)
The Wicker Man (1973, pretend the Nicolas Cage remake never happened and just enjoy the performances by Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee)
Psycho (1960, oddly Hitch didn't do much actual horror, mostly thrillers like Rear Window and North by Northwest, but this remains the finest psycho-slasher film of all time)
Hellraiser (1987, forget the subsequent misbegotten attempts to turn Pinhead into another horror anti-hero like Freddy or Jason, the original is a bloody, creepy show that does a bang-up job of bringing Clive Barker's horror sensibility to the cinema. Written and directed by Barker from his novella The Hellbound Heart)

I'm probably missing some. There should a King movie on here but I'm not sure which one. Maybe Misery or the TV miniseries of Salem's Lot.

I have so many of them but the one that comes to mind the most is The Shinning and anything by Steven King.

The movies that scared me most aren't horror movies - Requiem for a Dream and Apocalypse Now.

As for horror movies, I like them bloody with a sense of humour. There was a Norwegian zombie movie called Dead Snow a few years ago that was a lot of fun.

Don't believe everything that you read.

I'm a coward Watership Down scared me; I will never watch that film again.

So, with that in mind, my favs that I can actually watch without hiding behind my sofa are.

Aliens (all of them, Resurrection and Aliens are my fav ones tho)
Terminator.
World War Z (scared the shit out of me but still liked it, zero chance of being brave enough to watch it again tho )

There might be a few more, but tbh, I tend to avoid horror films at all costs. Shark ones are ok tho, scary but watchable.

I watched about 10 minutes of The Amityville once...Fuck me that film is terrifying, I had to turn it off.

You should check out the new zomedy series (yes, I did) on Netflix called Santa Clarita Diet. It's a bit quirky, definitely unique and fits both your criteria.

Missed that one on mine, but it's probably my favorite modern vampire film (as opposed to period vampire films like Dracula adaptations). Kathryn Bigelow's first film, IIRC (or at least very early in her career) and a terrific cast.
