As the title suggests, what is the protocol for editing? For short edits, I know it is fine to edit within the box, but for longer edits, sometimes you don't want to edit online, for whatever reason - people poking you, messaging and other distractions, so you edit offline. When finished editing, do you copy and paste the story into the edit box, thus overwriting the old copy, or do you have to manually enter the edits in the box?

I read the replies, good question.
I do both. It depends on how much needs to be edited. Sometimes, there are Lush only issues that happen when you save, extra words or a lost line. Glitches. These have to be dealt with in the edit box.
I use the edit box when it's minor.
However, sometimes I write when I'm tired and I really butcher it - fragments all over, sentences out of order. If this is the case then ill rewrite it on my computer.

*nods* if it's minor things, mispellings (see what i did there? lol), a bit of grammar that needs fixing, yes, keeping it to the edit box really is appreciated - that said, if it's a larger overhaul, i usually do the same, i have to admit.

Actually, I copied and pasted a whole new thingy after editing in Word over on the blue site...and believe it or not, it shows the differences in blue and red, just like if I made the changes in the box...
Don't ask me if this happens all the time, it was a one time thing for me as one of my stories got extensively edited with the help of editor Rosemary J. Kind...and I posted the revised version over on SS...like I said, I have no clue if the changes are always tracked like that...I have to say, I was rather surprised though...
