I've got the free version of Grammarly and it works well but I'd be intrested in what software other authors use for Grammar, I'm using a MacBook Pro. I've looked at Whitesmoke but it seems more web based using a browser. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I've done similar hunting. I've tried Grammarly, Hemmingway and Prowritingaid. As far as I can see if you want any depth of analysis you end up with tool that have to connect to the interenet. Without going into it, my guess is that they must use some big databases to compare what you write with masses of others. If all that was downpoaded to a Mac it woyld probably take a long time to update all the time and chew up a lot of memory. Not a lot of help, but that's what I've found so far. I did an MA in creative wriing as well, though that's more expensive than the software possibilities.
