Edit After Publication

Hi

I have just submitted my first story for 3 years.

I spent an hour proofreading it but after submitting found a small error, after submitting.

What will happen if I edit the story after publication? does it have to go through the moderation process all over again?

well, it does come back to us, since we need to make sure you didn't edit something against TOS in, but as long as you edit it in the box and don't edit it in word and cut and paste the entire thing again, we can see the edits and will usually verify it very very quickly.

Quick opinion here Sprite, maybe this should be a sticky thingy? You know what I'm like, a pain in the arse to the authors that give a shit about their work. I didn't know about the box thing and it makes sense to me- hopefully beneficial for both the masses and the modness' xxx

probably a good idea - i'll badger Nicky into doing it sometime in the near future (i'm too lazy to bother - one of the cons of being part cat). smile

I've definitely found this to be the case, when I catch a blooper in a story after publication.

I have no idea what the queue looks like, or how it works, from the moderator end, but would it be possible for an author to make an edit to a submitted story while it's in queue?

Right now I think the options are to wait till it's approved, and then resubmit with the edit.
or to delete the story from the queue entirely, and then resubmit fresh, putting your story all the way back at the end of the line.

Often the sort of edit I'd like to make isn't a specific mistake I can even hope that a mod will catch, but something like, "oh, I wish I'd remembered to add that tag," or, "That's a bit awkward; maybe I can tidy up that phrase."

I know that those sorts of things are things that I can and should catch before submission, but I do sometimes find things afterwards.

Being able to fix them even before they come to a moderator's eyes in the first place would seem to help w their work load. 1 verification vs 2.

actually considering writing a detailed: this is how Lush submissions work, talking about editing, the que, modding, etc now - so you guys have all the 411. that said, that means that people actually need to READ it, so please, if i do, spread the word - at present we get the occasional , , underage story here so i know that there are plenty of members who don't bother learning the rules, etc as is... evil5

While I'm sure you're right about people not reading the rules, info on Lush also seems pretty scattered all over the place.

agreed. While it's not spring, maybe some spring cleaning needs to be done in the near future. I'll talk to Nicky about it.

I agree with Noll too, it is scattered. If I wasn't reading the forums or on your friends list I wouldn't have seen this.

Good luck working it out! I think I thanked my greeter here but if I didn't apologies! Maybe, just maybe everyone gets an unblockable Spriteling or Nolling, sending messages out with lush info directly lol. More work but chuck in Daffy Duck having tenticle sex? Half the less weird yet adding more bull would run ?

Go for it. It's a great idea. Maybe there should be a link and checkbox on the submissions page requiring us (I'm an author so I can't really say "them") to acknowledge reading it before submitting.

And I'll happily propagate it.

Reading over my old submissions I usually catch one or two typos that I missed before submitting. It's frustrating. Maybe one day I'll go back and clean them up. I will say, though, that when I have made minor edits, the mods have been great at getting them re-approved quickly, sometimes also instantly. Also, once in awhile, I've had a mod go above and beyond and do some low-key copy-editing for some obvious errors with spelling or punctuation. It's not a huge deal, but I appreciate the extra effort.

Don't believe everything that you read.

I deleted and then decided to clean up and ended up reworking significantly - glad I did as I feel much happier with what I produced in the end.

just submitted it now after one last round of revisions - and argh! would you believe I forgot to deleted a great big space after the story ends.

I wonder if this will appear in the final version.

one question - if you edit after publication - do you lose all views, comments etc and do you get bumped to the top?

if you edit (as opposed to resubmitting as new) you keep all your views, comments, and votes. yes, you do get bumped to the top (unless there is a goldie in the que, then it's just under them). if you resubmit as new, none of that holds true.
