Thanks to our programming guru, here a useful tool that enables you to calculate the number of words and characters in a given body of text![]()

It's entirely possible that formatting isn't stripped out when the word count is performed. That should be fixed if it's the case, and might account for the frustrations people have with the total being "off". Good bit of sleuthing there.

I have been using the word and character counter at https://charactercounttool.com/ myself, but I;m sure this one is good as well. Just another option if anyone wants to use it! It never hurts to have a backup!

Thank you. The problem isn't counting words. The problem is the story editor appears to be counting formatting words as story words. It appears for example if type the word "the" in standard text it counts as one word. If you type the word "the" in bold, it counts as two words. Hope that makes sense. Regards, Verity

Are you formatting outside Lush then pasting it in or using the Lush editor? I write in plain text and when I add bold or italic after pasting, I do not see an increase in word count. There is a bug in the counting, which is especially noticeable in Micros, but that isn't related to formatting and remains a mystery.
