After a 1,000 word count when writing a new story I run out of idea's of where to take the story next.
Can anybody offer any idea's where I may be going wrong.
I don't think it's a question of word count, but of story arc. What is the story about, and at what point in it did you run out of steam?
Here's a good formula

Quick intro + heroine meets hero (or whatever your gender mix is) + tension + tension builds + black moment + finale

For a short story, it could be as simple as Jane meets Dick. Jane likes Dick, but Dick is a dick. Dick likes Jane, but Jane is uptight. Dick tries to get in Jane's pants. Jane slaps Dick's face. Dick kisses Jane. Jane fucks Dick.

Nice synopsis.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

Damn think the last part belongs in the humor section

I wish I could save this to favourites... has to be the best short story I have read in ages. If I knew that all it took was a it would of saved me a lot of time and effort, plus so much more fun

Honey, sorry, the only advice I can think of, is that if you seem stuck on a story idea, walk away and come back to it later... Or instead of adding to the story, maybe enhance what you already have and add more background about the plot or characters, or add to the description of the setting/scene (ie. colour of the bed, cave or car etc)?....
Hello,

Usually when I decide to start writing a story I already have an outline of all the major events that are going to happen. For example, I'll decide that my story will be about a threesome and maybe have some blackmail involved. Then I'll decide the personalities of the characters and decide who will be the main character. Last I'll come up with a setting that makes sense for the story I want to tell. Once you decide all of these things filling in the gaps becomes easier because you know where the story will eventually lead. A lot of the time I stray from my original setup but that's fine because it was just there to help me organize my thoughts.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for that it makes sense.
stories are about relationships

people in an unhappy relationship
spend most of their time plotting
or arguing about getting *out* the
relationship

people *not* in a relationship
spend most their time plotting or
talking about hooking up, shacking up,
moving in, etc.

relationships are a perpetual oscillating
spring: if the relationship is "happy" --
something happens which threatens it:
e.g., adultery, flirting, meeting an old flame, etc.
then the characters argue about what to do

if the initial relationship is chronically "weary" or
"unstable": the characters spend the beginning of the
story getting on each others' nerves and arguing about getting
out:

then something external happens which makes them
think they've escaped the drudgery; then it turns ugly:
which drives them back into each other's arms; they either
end up back together (and soon argue about breaking up,
again) or else they remain apart: become more miserable
and secretly discuss getting back together, ad infinitum

every great story from _oedipus, _hamlet, _the godfather,
_annie hall, etc.: has people either trying to escape a relationship,
or get back into one

the relationship doesn't need to be two people: it can be a
person against a family tradition, e.g., _the godfather/michael corleone;
or, hamlet not sure whether to kill his uncle (now-married to his mother)
after being visited by an apparition of his dead father, etc.

oedipus has a relationship with the citizens of thebes: who worship
him for saving the town from disaster: and later, banish him for
murdering the last king

above all: remember: a plot is an oscillating spring: people commited
to each other plot to escape each other's influence: move out,
quit the company, get divorced, etc.;

people uncommitted to each other: plot to hook up, shack up,
join-the-club, run the company, etc.

dosteyevsky had a sign on his desk: "when in doubt: throw in
one unnecessary detail"

someone could find a red glove; or an empty dog collar; whatever:
just keep the relationship-spring opening and closing, ad infinitum

the end

There is a lot of good advice here. I'll add this.

Have your character write a letter to you or create a diary for your character. Write a letter back to your character. This will let you step outside your story with out the being constrained by plot. Understanding your characters will sometimes help you know where the story is going.

Porn is about the sex, eroticism is about the characters. Confusing the two will make it hard to write the story.
Thanks Kyle. I feel better this week, I have been writing using names of people I know in stories then just changing the names, its still fantasy but it help me keep going. Today I started on a story and used this method and didn't stop typing for a good three hours and fellt happy again. This did make me feel as if I had stepped out of myself when typing the story out.
I will try your suggestions thank you.

thanks Lacy that is very good advice
Hey Bee...I agree with Magical in that I try to have the story worked out in my head before I type...sort of keeps me form sitting in front of the computer and staring at a blank screen...
Also, don't feel it has to be more than 1000 words...I've done at least two stories which are less...I just checked, my first story had only 945...
So, don't aim for a number...aim for an ending...
Sounds good.
Later,
Alan.
