Adding images to a work

Now I may be a Silly Goose but I see lots of work here with images.
I'm fairly sure I can't just bounce off to a search engine grab the first image I can find and throw it up here.
Is there some preferred source for them, or do people really just grab an image and throw it here?

Whatever was posted is always meant in love and respect never to offend.
I'm also highly likely to have posted this from a phone so there may be typos or odd word changes, auto correct can be a pain.

In theory, you're meant to have copyright owenership for any image you post, or have sought permission if the copyright rests elsewhere. I'm not sure everyone rigidly adheres to that, but I suppose as long as it's not blatantly ripped from a high-profile site or a porn studio, then as long as it's credited to the original author (by name, or the watermark left in) you may be okay, with the proviso someone might come knocking and ask you to remove it one day.

There are a bunch of royalty-free resources out there that you can use gratis (though they do encourage you to credit the artist of course):

* pixabay.com
* unsplash.com
* pexels.com
* probably others...

But to be honest, their 'seductive' offerings tend to be ropey. You do find the odd exception if you hunt for it.

A lot of mine come from newtumbl.com.
