So then what was "Mr. Aldean was an actor in the video." about?
Oh that... that typed message was simply the equivalent of an old man mumbling into his beer mug, during another lonely night at the tavern.

That might be why you've got no empathy for the small business owners whose businesses were vandalized, looted, and burned.
Valuing human life over small businesses isn't the same as having no empathy for the losses incurred by small business owners.

i have plenty of empathy. never said i didn't. i just order my values differently. in my experience, looting and vandalizing arn't an everyday occurrence. in fact, it's very rare and all too often it's more about the perpetration of hate crimes. yep, people still don't like the gays, blacks, jews, hispanics, asians, muslims, or women. Most of the women i work with fall under at least one of those catagories, I fall under two, My wife falls under three. most of my friends/co-workers fall under at least one. most of them are more concerned about violence against themselves than they are about people busting windows. not that people should be doing that shit, but hey, priorities,
what i deal with - domestic violence - happens every single fucking day. apx 20 people in the US are abused every single fucking minute by an intimate partner. i am pretty sure that the stuff you are so outraged by doesn't happen nearly that often.
you want to change the world, get upset about that instead. hell, donate or volunteer at your nearest shelter. for the record, a lot of my expenses come out of my own pocket. funding is crap. maybe write to Mr Aldean and ask him to donate too. i mean, he could probably use the tax break right now after buying his dream mansion down in Florida.
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I guess it depends on what you consider minor shit. If your business was vandalized, looted, or burned, would it still be minor shit?
You say 'my business' but your linked article seems to be looking for sympathy for the insurance industry. Not from me, I'm afraid.
In any case, don't misdirect the conversation. The thread (and comment) were about Jason Aldean's country song, which was more or less a non-issue until conservatives blew it up into one. Now it's No. 2 in the charts - not because the song is any good, but because conservatives have strongly rallied to its defense from a handful of liberals who took exception to the video. Ironic that its success benefited more from the general zeitgeist than its own musical merits. Seems to me like less of a controversy and more of a marketing gimmick.
Conservatives seem to suffer from chronic delusions of persecution - 'they're out to get us.' No one's out to get you. They just want you to stop being such a huge paranoid asshole, lashing out against everyone who doesn't stroke your fragile snowflake ego. But conservatives don't want to let go of their paranoid fantasies, because if they acknowledge that the monsters outside their windows are really just trees tapping at the glass, then there's no longer any justification for stockpiling their guns and ammunition, and all the tough-guy posturing of Aldean (not to mention DeSantis, Trump, and their contemporaries) becomes only pointless, stupid, and cruel acts of bullying.
Don't believe everything that you read.

No, it's the question I hoped you'd answer honestly.
An honest answer to a dishonest question?
Small business owners are being fucked much harder every day by bigger businesses (like the insurance industry that you're simping for) than the occasional bit of vandalism that occurred during the BLM protests more than two years ago. By the way, all of the violence that you're assuming happened is mostly in your own mind. People who actually researched the protests found little evidence to support the 'violent mob' picture you're painting:
"94% of protests involved no participant arrests, 97.9% involved no participant injuries, 98.6% involved no injuries to police, and 96.7% involved no property damage."
Since that time, how many small businesses have been vandalized etc. by white supremacists (and how many of those do you think were in small towns?)? How many potential small scale entrepreneurs have been denied access to the business world because they haven't been able to compete against large-scale companies that use their size to dominate markets? Look at what Wal-Mart has done to your small business owner. Far more destructive than anything a kid with a brick or a spray can could ever dream of doing.
So, don't cry to me about the plight of small business owners. I don't believe your tears are genuine.
Don't believe everything that you read.
It's a cynical attention grab for red state Fox-heads. It stays JUST this side of being overtly offensive, by design, so they can all rightly claim innocence. He didn't write the song, he bought it from a company who bought it from a songwriter who is figuring out that polarization and veiled hate speech sells records. I like country music, and I AM from a small town, and this kind of cheap manipulation is bullshit.

So you won't provide an honest answer. OK
so, you're answer is to stick your head in the sand and ignore some very important points that Just a Guy made and then just post one of about a 1,000 of your 'so you won't answer me' comments. THIS is why people think you eat crayons, buddy.

There's another post making me the focus instead of the topic. In a sense, you're admitting you don't have anything better to say about the subject - the reasons for the "please don't run again" articles from traditionally Democratic-leaning media.
What topic? That this is just another easy way to grift conservatives? Well I guess you fell for it.
Quote by Ironic
No. I asked for what he's decided not to provide - an honest answer.
No. The "eat crayons" silliness is an ad-hominem argument. It's what you're left with when you're out of better arguments and the facts to back them up.
so you're calling him out for what you do in here constantly? heheh. thanks. i needed the laugh today.

yes, ma'am. curious, btw, after looking up where Aldean lives and where he grew up. i was kind of thinking that a small town would be a few thousand people. i think we need to have some sort of agreement on how small a small town really is. i mean, Macon, GA and Nashville, TN are now considered small towns?
Neither are small towns but cities. Nashville has an NFL team and a major university, and is a pretty big city with a lot going on. Macon is a small city and is boringly dead and hot as he'll, like super humid, sweaty hot. There could be a riot in Macon out of sheer boredom.
I come from a small town, not super small, but small enough. In small towns most people know each other, so people would have a hard time finding businesses and buildings to destroy that don't belong to folks they don't know. And it seems like people in small towns, knowing each other personally, going to school together, working and shopping together, try harder and do better to work out differences than in high population areas where there is a lot of anonymity.
PS. Sprite, you might be entertained by the fact that Macon has had minor league pro sports teams called the Macon Bacon, another the Macon Whoopies.
Pete Rose once played for the Macon Peaches AA minor league baseball team.
Try that in a small town. If it flies, try it in a big town. If they don't like it, edit it.

If that theory's true, it seems to have worked. Billboard has it tagged as #1 “Re entry”, and People posts “Try That in a Small Town” is the second song in history to re-enter the Hot Country Songs chart at No 1”

So, write a crap song and make a controversial video, and you'll still strike gold because of Conservative outrage. Sounds about right.
Quote by Ironic
No. But even though we can't know why the edits were made, it is interesting speculation at Huffpost, since the song is back at #1.
We can't know why BLM protest footage was edited from the video after backlash over BLM protest footage being in the video, when said footage was the reason the video got the attention and traction that it did?

Mr. Aldean doesn’t mention race in the lyrics. It’s a white guy holding the molotov cocktail, and the rioters aren’t only one race, so why are you assuming the issue is race? That doesn’t make sense.
BLM footage was the only footage that was edited out, and the BLM footage was specifically mentioned in the opening post of this thread, and identified as the problem for the backlash.
Quote by Chryses
The problem here is that the video depicts BLM/Antifa riots ("mostly peaceful"?), which are darlings of the special few.

Are you talking about the mention of BLM/Antifa riots footage? If you are, then I've helped you remember the part you've left out.
And that puts it doesn't make sense back, since I'm sure you're not trying to cherry-pick your data,
I'm cherry-picking that BLM footage was edited out of the video? Because BLM footage is what was edited out of the video. I've also included the information you're claiming I'm excluding in my quote of the original post.
You're being pedantic again, and killing conversations. Please don't make this yet another thread I have to lock because your refusal to engage in an honest conversation causes you to run entire threads into the ground with bullshit anti-logic.
░P░U░S░S░Y░ ░I░N░ ░B░I░O░

No. I reminded you that you've dropped the Antifa part. You're artificially limiting the discussion to your presupposed racial basis, even though the lyrics don't refer to race, and the video is and was multi-racial.
That doesn't make sense,
I don't need reminding about the Antifa part. I'm well aware of what I included/excluded. It's not because of a vendetta. It's because, specifically, BLM footage was edited from the music video.
░P░U░S░S░Y░ ░I░N░ ░B░I░O░

So if it was the BLM footage that's now been removed from the music video that was "the reason the video got the attention and traction that it did", the popularity would have gone down. It's gone up, back to the #1 spot, so that's not likely the reason for the song's popularity, is it?
Removal of the footage also resulted in removal on the blockages placed on the music video. Folding on his principles made him more palatable to the mainstream. Which is kinda sad on his part, because those pushing him to #1 are the ones who are already in full support of his message with the original footage.
I also believe there's something to be said for those who were already in support doubling down on their support in opposition of the opposition, especially since many were pushing for a Billboard 100 #1 debut, which he didn't get, so there's renewed efforts to get him to #1.

I think Macon was also around where the Allman Brothers were from.
Macon was a pretty happening place back when Capricorn Records was hot. It was on its way to being one of America's hottest rock music enclaves. But after Capricorn went down, the forward motion died.
Macon is also where Little Richard and Otis Redding were from.
Later interstate highways built to bypass the city really hurt it economically.
I'm sure that song is as popular as all those tell-all books about the Trump Experiment Disaster, written by the Trump-chosen REPUBLICANS who were there and enabling the motherfucking crime spree.
The only entity which buys those kinds of books is the Republican National Committee - in an attempt to make some of their young up&comers appear to be prolific authors chock full of wisdom.
I would not be surprised to learn a GQP push was behind this pretend-redneck, actual racist asshole and his fucked up ditty.

I'd be interested in knowing what those who are deeply concerned with the plight of small-business owners think of this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/28/opinion/tulsa-race-massacre-reparations.html
Honestly, someone with more media production skills than I have should remake the video and substitute the riot footage for images of the racially motivated massacres, lynchings, and violence throughout American history of people of color and their businesses. There are small (predominantly Black) towns across the southern US that simply don't exist anymore because they were essentially wiped off the map by White mob violence (and many more through 'softer' acts of coordinated violence like the practice of 'redlining'). Tulsa was probably the biggest. Compared to these attacks, the BLM protests were negligible in their impact on small business owners.
Don't believe everything that you read.

Whataboutism is contagious this time of year from the GQP, and there is no vaccine to protect against their infection. I suspect it will make it's appearance soon however.
