Whoa now, Buz. You may be onto something with the spelling bee thing. 80% of people with a stutter recover, and most of that 80% are women. Being that there's a gender gap in recovering from this speech impediment, think of the implications of trans people participating in spelling bees.

In short, all of this shit is actually quite stupid.

why do some people have such hate for transgender folk? life is hard enough for them as it is without all the extra abuse and shit piled on them. i know most of you can't imagine what it's like to be the target of hatred, but maybe take a moment and think about it sometime.

be even more encouraging when we can see separate categories for blacks, too - i mean, they dominate in track and field and other sports. seems kind of unfair. and what about all those asian table tennis players and hispanic football (soccer for all you 'muricans) players? can we please go back to segregating sports like god intended?

All categories are inherently phobic. It should just be every man, woman and trans person for themselves. Probably would have to exclude penguins from swimming. They always win.

But the open category is not just for transwomen. According to the article you've linked "The new category will be open for “all sex and gender identities” …", so cis men can also compete in this category. But that negates the whole idea that men should not be able to compete against women.

That's not what I was saying. But the "trans women should not compete against women" team always claimed that "men should not compete against women", so I'm curious why they think it's okay for cis men to compete against trans women, many of whom will be on testosteron blockers.

The entire point of women's leagues was to level the advantages of gender and allow them a fair playing field. However, I think we could maybe follow examples like boxing where competitors are divided by weight class to ensure a fairer fight.

That's fantastic that you're exercising your freedom and feel emboldened to take on men competitively. You couldn't have made a better case for women's rights.

That's not the same as women being put in a position where they have to compete against trans identified men.

I thought women were better at the aim, because of finer motor skills. Could be wrong though.

Biological males should compete against biological males. Biological females should compete against biological females. That is only logical. Transgender should be a category of its' own. And no performance enhancing pharmaceuticals allowed in any category.

And once true AI humanesque computer cyborgs walk amongst us, (which will be sooner than you think) they should compete in their own distinct category.

i'm going to bow out of this convo. these are people you are all talking about. people who are, sadly, used to being bullied, and harassed, and hated on. i really can't stomach opening up this thread one more time and seeing trans folks being talked about like they somehow aren't deeply affected by discussions like this. that you have the right to talk about them as if they aren't... people. so yeah, keep it up and keep telling yourself that it's not bigotry. can't stop y'all from lying to yourselves. aidos.

It's important to note I think that rather than being an anti trans issue, which it isn't, this is purely about fairness for women's and girl's sports. If it was a trans issue, people would be making the same noise about trans men participating in men's sports. They aren't because trans men have no advantage over biological men.

Also, trans women and trans men should be free to participate in chess, bridge, darts, Scrabble, snooker and other non physical sports on an equal basis with men and women.
