Soccer: USWNT. Cuz, Alex Morgan of course. But Messi and Ronaldo are always fun. Picked up a slick Real Madrid practice jersey back in the day when I was in Europe.

NCAA Basketball: UNC TarHeels. Fuck Dook.

NCAA Football: Missouri Tigers (alma mater) So. Fuck the ChickenHawks of LowRents, Kansas.

Baseball: Cardinals. Sorry, Damon. Fuck the Cubs.

NFL? Not a fan of any team really anymore since Satanic Stan moved the Rams back to LA. Won't root for that team until the man is dead and buried.

It's no team sport, but I used to watch a lot of tennis growing up. Andre Agassi was my favorite.

Soccer isn't a real sport.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

"American Football and Ice hockey"?

Are you sure you aren't British?

...or from any other part in the world except for the US or Canada probably?

Hockey - Ottawa Senators
Football (what's soccer?) - Chelsea
Loving "planet football" at the moment in the shape of the World Cup, especially when a world heavyweight is held to a tie by a "minnow", good job Iceland!

I have enjoyed Rugby since my youngest son started playing in middle school and continued through college. It is an interesting sport that I still don't quite understand all of the rules. Not much televised coverage here in the states. They show more of rugby 7s which I am not a particularly fond of.

I shouldn’t worry, even the England players don’t understand the rules which is why they always give away penalties at crucial times.

Cricket is my number one love, although I have given up trying to explain the game to my American friends.

Soccer — as a Manchester City supporter I am ecstatic about the way that play under the coaching of Pep Gardiola which has given them the Premier League title this year with a record number of points and goals scored. The World Cup is near the end of the group stages and it is possible to watch three games live every day — England have actually won two games and scored 8 goals although the opposition was pretty second rate, but one can always hope that they might go on to the final. There are 16 Manchester City players involved in the World Cup playing for several countries — 3 for England and 2 for Belgium. England play Belgium next so that should be interesting.

Winter Sports fan. Hockey (Washington Capitals fan - congratulations on the Stanley Cup last month) and Winter Olympics are definite I will watch. Soccer - right now watch the World Cup matches. Summer Olympics interest me but especially swimming and running. Not a football, basketball or baseball fan although I've attended Washington Wizards and Washington Nationals games from time to time. Attend Capitals games on a regular basis (season ticket holder)

Football - Pittsburgh Steelers

Hockey - Pittsburgh Penguins
whatever is on at work...usually Cleveland teams and Ohio State. At home I don't watch much.

Correct. I'll give you football. But "ice hockey" seems redundant.

"Field hockey" is what girls in English private schools play.

"Hockey" is a major sport in North American and most of Europe.

Hockey is the most difficult sport to play in the world.. Try sliding around on metal blades hitting a rock hard piece of rubber with a wooden stick as other men try and smash your face into the ground... and fighting is part of the game.

I'll give you football. I can't call it that because we have a viable alternative to call it but I understand why you would.

But calling it "ice hockey" is just disrespectful. It's like calling soccer "non-foosball".

You may be right about Scandinavië and Russia, to name a few. But in The Netherlands for instance, where ice skating is well enjoyed by many people, hockey is field hockey and ice hockey is an exception. And I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case for the majority of people around the world.

Would be nice if there was some global survey data on the terms hockey and football and the way they're interpreted.

The Wikipedia page on 'Hockey' starts with this:

Quote by Wikipedia
Hockey is a sport in which two teams play against each other by trying to maneuver a ball or a puck into the opponent's goal using a hockey stick. There are many types of hockey such as bandy, field hockey and ice hockey.

Often one variation of the sport, such as field hockey or ice hockey, will predominate in a certain area and be known simply as "hockey".

Where I thought ice hockey was popular in Scandinavia, or at least Sweden, and Russia that is probably Bandy.

Anyway, I prefer Air Hockey.

I've never met anyone anywhere, who plays field hockey.

I'd say hockey is hockey. It happens to be played on ice. I've never played it but have seen it on TV all my life and attended professional and amateur hockey games. It's a major spectator sport at The Winter Olympics. Is it possible hockey may be the Winter Olympics most attended sport? Hmm...

But I've never seen field hockey or bandy on TV or anywhere else. What is bandy anyhow? I know what Brandy is. I'm planning on making some homemade Peach Brandy, maybe some Apple Brandy too.

I do play air hockey. I own an air hockey table, and as well, I have a foosball table, ping pong table, billiards table, two working antique pinball machines, and a Frogger machine, in my basement game room.

Football? I played organized football for over 13 years. In my life, I've played linebacker, wide receiver, quarterback, halfback, wingback, cornerback, and safety. Yeah, as a kid, I played in some Wing-T offensive formations. (If you count fraternity flag football, make that 17 years. I did knock a guy out cold playing flag football.)

I actually thought about this right after I posted...

How are you guys the best in skating around in circles, but actually playing hockey is unknown in Netherlands?

Many people play hockey here, it's the second most popular sport here after football. American football and ice hockey are somewhere down the list though

If you do an image search for "hockey <country>" you'll get an idea of what plain hockey refers to in that country (though the English name for the country may skew the results perhaps if English is not the native language). For many countries, like China and Brazil, it's pretty much a mix. For others is obviously one (e.g. India, Australia, Netherlands - field hockey) or the other (e.g. US, Canada, Germany - ice hockey).

I don't know actually, but I got that from the Wikipedia hockey page. It has a page of it's own too and turns out to be a mix of football (soccer), field and ice hockey. At first look it resembles ice hockey the most as it's played on ice with similar outfits worn by the players.

Damn, where can I find that basement?

I have plans to someday combine pinball, hockey (that's air hockey of course) and sjoelen (Dutch style shuffleboard) into one game

Men's "field hockey" has been an Olympic sport at every summer games since 1928... And, like Noll, I'll probably just continue to be disrespectful - "ice hockey" is far from redundant here.

But I think that calling real football, "Australian football" or "Aussie rules" is redundant...
Wow a few Rugby fans. Love rugby sevens and 15's , I play and coach many teams currently. MY personal Fav...

My first love was basketball though played forever, and love watching NBA playoffs where they finally start to play for real.

NHL is fun, Love watching. Those guys are fit tough, and technical. Extremely impressive.

Used to love American Football. But as of late football is not football anymore too many rules. They can barely touch each other anymore, and not the way I remember playing it either. Your job was to be the hammer. Now it is a rubber hammer wrapped with bubble wrap and a condom over the top.

World cup is fun and I don't mind soccer. Except I can't stand the baby mentality. You see a rugby player get drilled and he jumps back up and keeps playing. A soccer player gets bumped and he is down for the next 5 mins.

I also like UFC type stuff. So I guess you could say I'll watch anything really physical. hmm come to think of it. It's kinda why i'm on this site too smile
Football (soccer) is the only sport I watch regularly. My teams are Manchester City and Stoke. Although there are a bunch of different players I love to watch.

I used to watch basketball and those teams were Utah Jazz and The New York Knicks.

Baseball and football (American) and not something I like to watch on TV, but I love to be there.

I have a new story out! Wish You Were Here A teasing sub may I have pushed too far, but the punishment is oh so sweet.

If you haven't already, please check out my story with leftlingula. A husband and wife rediscovered each other and It all started with one simple word...
Nightshade Part 1 & Nightshade: Part 2

College ball, the Razorbacks........don't watch any pro teams. Bunch of overpaid crybabies

I love rugby 7s. I played rugby but it would have been much more beneficial to play 7s than 15s.

I agree with you. We get smashed and with no equipment we just keep playing. I played fullback which is the worst position ever.
I was a huge basketball fan back when I was a student in the 90s. I even had my parents build me my own court in the back yard. It was awesome. I had a huge court, surrounded by Iguanas perched on the When I would go to Florida on vacation all I would do was play basketball.

My favorite team was the Atlanta Hawks.

I loved Spud Webb and Dominique Wilkins. I even used 21 as my number.

After Vancouver got a team, I went full Grizzlies... but unfortunately, the Grizzlies were the worst team in pro sports...

They lost the team, and Seattle lost their team so I lost all Basketball teams. There was zero chance I was going to go for Memphis or Oklahoma.

So I guess I'm kind of a raptors fan....
NBA - The Lakers

NFL - The Chargers

NCAA Basketball: UNC TarHeels. Fuck Dook.

Not that I would choose to support a University founded by a tobacco grower from North Carolina.... But my high school mascot was a blue devil, so I used to wear a lot of Duke gear. The blue devil mascot really pissed off the religious community in my small town.

So you love slavery then? Haha... Just kidding...

Dominique Wilkins is a cool guy. I've had the pleasure of talking with him several times. I was too young to know the cool 80s early 90s Hawks teams with Dominique, Spud Webb, Doc Rivers, and all. And like me, Dominique is a big supporter of our alma mater. Go Dawgs!

I was 9 and at the Braves World Series game 6 with my dad when they won the '95 World Series.
I’m hoping the Red Sox go all the way this year and win the World Series. They are freaking amazing this year! Every game win or lose have some amazing moments. Pitching is on point even though Price is sorta slacking, but Percello and Sale are AMAZING.. hitting is so freaking awesome and so many grand slams! Boggarts and Betts and Moreland are killing it lol if you can’t tell I’m a huge fan ?
