In my personal opinion, anything is better than red and whites and ALSO better than the forum avatars. It doesn't have to be you. There's 10 billion images out there.

There are a number of reasons why people use fake avatars. Most of it is privacy concerns. You don't always know who you are talking to so you have to protect yourself. I use an avatar that isn't me because not everyone I associate with would be open minded about the stories I sometimes write!

The avatar I use is me, but I'm not ashamed or trying to hide that I am a Lush member...I'm proud of my work and my friends have come to this site to read what I've written. Other's may want some anonymity, and that's fine. No harm in using our imagination.

An avatar is just that, an avatar. It needn't be you. But for most people, they choose one to represent a mood or a feeling, maybe how they see themselves or how they want others to see them. The choice of an avatar isn't really an issue, unless someone chooses to identify it as themself. Then it bloody well better be you. If not, that's where an avatar becomes a deception and becomes an issue for me.

So essentially its this. Different avatars, no problem. Fakes, get a life.

Yeah, I can't stand people that use fake avatars. It's misleading and deceitful, which is why mine is an actual picture of me! Now you understand why I type so slowly - without any thumbs for the space bar it's quite a challenge.

What you don't think my avatar is me?

I think they are confusing this site with match.com. This is a site dedicated to writers and creative people who write mostly FANTASY or at least enjoy telling a good story. Stands to reason that their avatars wouldn't be them.
