Looks like Green Bay had to take one for the other 31 teams and the fans

Kind of funny how they couldnt get this done for over a month but suddenly they get
a lot of really bad press and miraculaously, a deal gets done!

Great job Mr Goodell, you arrogant PRICK!!!
One down one more to go......

Hope the NHL can get something worked out soon! I am going through some serious hockey withdrawls here!

You're right Nikki, it's amazing how fast they can strike a deal when there is such an obvious blown call in the Green Bay / Seahawks game.
Morons!

Me too. I love hockey!! But its tough for hockey. The league doesnt make the money the other sports do so they are unlikely to give into the players. And unlike the other sports, the players have another outlet, they can go play in Europe and get paid very well. So I think its gonna be a long wait, unfortunately.
The NHL has another issue that's it's had a hard time dealing with. As consumers of sports we like the games we can relate to and played as a child. No one south of the Mason-Dixon line has every played hockey so they don't have any emotional connection to the game. Yeah, there are some southern cities that have an NHL team, but even those only carry a local following. Any NHL game on tv is rarely going to pull the ratings of NFL or NBA or MLB because a whole quadrant of the country isn't watching. Less viewers, less money.

They never should've expanded south like they did. From what I've heard, teams have left loyal fanbases behind- at the league's urging- to stake out new territory in the South and West of the US, and many of those teams have been met with relative indifference. Hopefully the trend to return teams to their former homes continues. Did you see the footage of Winnipeg on opening night of the return of their team? Just awesome.

Imagine if St. Louis lost the Cardinals, or Denver lost the Broncos, or Seattle lost the Supersoni- oops! That actually happened.

Just send the teams back north, to Canada, to the Northeast, to where the people care about it and nurture it.

Agreed. Florida doesn't need a hockey team. But for football it would be different. If the Saints had moved to Oklahoma City, they would have loved having an NFL team and the league revenue would have stayed mostly the same. Taking the New Jersey Devils and making them the New Mexico Lobos would be an epic failure.

Keep the NHL up where there's actual ice and snow in the winter. And off my tv too.

I know this is a post about the NFL ref's and Im glad to see the regulars coming back, however the comments on the NHL caught my attention. I do respect your comments, but im glad the NHL is in the south and I don't think it needs to go back north. Growing up in the south we didn't get to play it, I have been involved with hockey at all levels over the past 10 yrs and now it is a part of my entire family's life. Yes the fans to the north have a few more yrs of loyalty, give the south 40 yrs of exposure and we will be as obsessed with it as well. It's sad the owners want cut the players portion of revenue 20%, i think id say no thanks if my boss wanted to do that, especially for the second time in 7 yrs. I'm afraid we may not see it at all this season. once again billionaires arguing with millionaires over money and the fans don't get to watch our favorite team play.

I think hockey actually has done OK in Florida but that is because of so many transplanted northerns move down there while waiting to die. OK that was wrong, HAHA. But hockey doesnt belong in Phoenix, Dallas even LA. Hell, LA cant even support a football team.

not sure what can be done with some of these teams. No where to move them really. Maybe Seattle or Portland. Many northern cities have enough rabid fans to support more than one hockey team although with the economy the way it is that isnt practical. And all the major Canadian cities have teams already. Maybe put one back in Quebec.

Its a shame, hockey is such a great game. Beats the hell out of the joke that is the NBA!

Thanks football Gods!!

Those refs were starting to get on my nerves!

You weren't the only one my friend, but they tried their best, their best wasn't good enough. We have to remember they came from Division III and high school football, rules and game speed are different compared to NFL. Watching the replacement Refs at work has often left us scratching our heads, but some of it I found quite comical. For example, the final play of the GB vs Sea game, the two Refs looking at each other, then signaling different calls. I don't know if I'm the only one in America that found it funny, but that cracked me up. Also, hearing about players Tweets were funny too.

It is sad that it had to come down to the horrible officiating this past weekend for them to finally come to their senses. I'm just glad they resolved their differences, and now the players determine the outcome of games, not the Footlocker associates.

Not a NHL fan, but Billionaires arguing about distributing their profits kills me every time.
Yeah. All Though I did enjoy watching the Packers get screwed
all i have to say is about time
Packers/Seahawks is what broke the camels back?

Did nobody see the Patriots @ Ravens?

I am pretty happy about it though. would have really hated it to go on any longer and spoil some great games, especially the one I will be able to see in the flesh.
I missed the start of the Baltimore-Cleveland game .... but I understand the REAL Refs got a standing ovation when they stepped onto the field by the fans. (and I am sure by the players/coaches as well!!)

its about time now we can see some real football
Thank God the real refs are back! I think we all realize how professional those guys are now. It's funny, the real referees are back and they'll be getting some love from the players, coaches & the fans. "Whooda Thunkit!"
