An online survey asked 500 teachers to name their favourite titles.

What book would you recommend to a school or college student?
What book would you recommend to a friend?

H. G. Wells, Charles Dickens, Jules Verne? Fire away!

Outside of the classics and classic authors I have a couple recommendations. Two books by Wally Lamb. "I Know This Much To Be True" and "The Hour I First Believed". Both are excellent, but of the two "The Hour..." is better. But be forewarned. It is emotionally brutal and will stick with you for a couple days after you're done reading it.

hahahahaha Thank you for making me smile hun lmao
Anything by Steven King. His books are far better than the majority of his movies. Out of his works, The Stand, Salem's Lot, The Dark Tower series, It, The Dark Half, and Needful Things are all great.

Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer - a little bit for younger readers, but since many adults enjoy harry potter, it shouldn't be a problem.
Watership Down by Richard Adams
Redwall series by Brian Jacques
By Reason Of Insanity by Shane Stevens
Stories From The Twilight Zone by Rod Serling
More Stories From The Twilight Zone by Rod Serling
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Most well known stories from HP Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. The Hound and The Call of Cthulhu are very interesting. Sometimes Poe rambles a bit, but most of his stories are interesting.
Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein
Recently I really enjoyed Little Bee by Chris Cleave -- sensitive, different, and surprising. A good read.

A confirmed bookaholic, I can recommend any of these I've read in the last month:

The Bridge Trilogy ~ William Gibson
Perfume ~ Peter Süskind
The end of Mr Y ~ Scarlett Thomas
Ledgend ~ David Gemmil
Serpent War Saga ~ Raymond E Feist
The last dragonslayer ~ Jasper Fforde

Anytime someone does want a suggested read, tell me the style and I could probably name one or two.

Now back to the Tad Willams series I've got going, very Game of Thrones meets Alice in Wonderland. (but that's a post for another day)
