Kentucky Representative Tim Couch filed a bill this week to make anonymous posting online illegal.

The bill would require anyone who contributes to a website to register their real name, address and e-mail address with that site.

Their full name would be used anytime a comment is posted.

If the bill becomes law, the website operator would have to pay if someone was allowed to post anonymously on their site. The fine would be five-hundred dollars for a first offense and one-thousand dollars for each offense after that.

Representative Couch says he filed the bill in hopes of cutting down on online bullying. He says that has especially been a problem in his Eastern Kentucky district.

Action News 36 asked people what they thought about the bill.

Some said they felt it was a violation of First Amendment rights. Others say it is a good tool toward eliminating online harassment.

Represntative Couch says enforcing this bill if it became law would be a challenge.

Having experienced some serious harassment and trolling online, I have to say that the idea is somewhat appealing.

On the other hand, there are things I write which would not go over with, say, my employer?

And who would decide what is now legal or illegal to do online?

The solution to online bullying is to grow a thick skin, ignore trolls and soldier on.

And I think the biggest issue is with youth and sites like FaceBook and MySpace. Parental involvement could solve this problem instantly. In my opinion, at least.

hahahahahahahahahahaha........hahahahahahahahaahaha.....

just catching my breath back, sorry.

that isn't ever going to happen. totally unpoliceable.

censorship stinks. I only draw the line in the sand here on a few points to avoid the hassle.

So many issues that this brings up, and it's ridiculous to think a shotgun approach will solve "bullying" in the least.

What disturbs me is the fact that some would think to do such a thing in the first place.
