I was always drawn towards sex scenes or dirty parts in books when I was really young, so I just sought out more and more. I admit, I was more into surfing porn than reading erotica online growing up... However, from as early as I can remember I would write my own dirty stories on scraps of paper and turn myself on that way. I liked being able to cater it to my own kinks. I often wrote dirty stories in the backs of notebooks while bored in class sometimes as well.
I only started reading online erotica about a year ago when I first found Lush... it spiralled from there.
Pretty much the same here. As a kid I found a few porn magazine and although it felt like an incredible discovery watching all of those beautiful women naked, it faded soon after. Bored I kept on turning the pages as to find the newer girl of the day, I stumbled on a story, I read a bit of it and it penetrated my mind. I remember thinking wow this is better than the photos.
I than started also to write a little to adapt the story to my liking. I have been reading erotica and jotting down a few of my thoughts ever since. Although I feel that my stories are great, the difference is that I don't write as good for someone also but me to read it.
I do however "wash" my hands after writing and toss most of my writing two day later.. Wash again the hands.

I was babysitting for my aunt when I was either 12 or 13 and I came across a book beside her bed that only had erotic stories in it. After I put my cousin to bed I read the entire thing and I was hooked.
found a mag one summer while cleaning up after a houseguest. there were a handful of pictures in it, but what caught my interest were the stories. made my high school more fun.

Found my father's porn mags in the bathroom cupboard (aged 12) didn't like the pictures but loved the stories. Then gotinto James Tiptree jnr (sexualised sci-fi) and then Harold Robbins "The Pirate"; I read chapter 1 so many times I nearly went blind (IYKWIM)! From them on I found erotism in everything I read - even when it wasn't there! 
Hanging out with a friend at his house and he showed me where his Dad kept his "personal stash". He had a copy of Penthouse and as I was leafing through it found the letters section. The first story was a bisexual story. I got really hot thinking about having sex with another guy. The detail of the story was so hot, I must've cum at least 4 times that night.
It happened as soon as I discovered stories that had sex in them! My brother left a box of books in the basement that include some 1950s vintage "dirty" books - and science fiction authors like Robert Heinlein included sex in their stories as did other authors - one of the older scouts in our troop also brought his collection of playboys, penthouse, and others to a jamboree and shared them with some of us other boys.

No Internet back then (I'm old, what can I say), so I got started by browsing dirty magazines that the families I babysat for had lying around. Seriously, these people had kids under 10 and just left piles of Playboy and Penthouse around the house. So, I read some Penthouse letters and that sort of thing and never looked back. Used to buy the odd copy of Penthouse Variations or Letters to stroke to. Now the Internet scratches that itch quite nicely.

I have been reading books since I was 8 or 9 and when I didnt have my own books to read... sometimes I used to sneak into my fathers library of books (he had a large library of all sorts of books.. none were erotica) to grab one of his... and they did have some juicy ... steamy stuff in them..

Pretty similar to a few stories on here. When i was a lot younger i found an uncles old stash of playboy and penthouse mags after he moved to the united states. Pictures were cool but really got into the stories and since that day have been addicted. For me i think it's being able to use my imagination.

I started high brow. I discovered my Mom's copy of Anais Nin's The Delta of Venus (a collection of erotic short stories) when I was becoming sexually curious at a pretty young age, and never looked back. Also in the not so distant past there wasn't a lot of easily accessible porn on the internets, and what was around was pretty poor quality. So erotica worth getting off to was a lot easier to find than decent porn.
