I prefer the Santana version -

This is a 1978 cover of a 1969 Allman Brothers classic. This one blows the original out of the water.

Been looking for this for months. A program host used this for a bumper without giving the artist. Thank you!

(Sorry, Buz. I adore the Allmans but in this case, the original was too depressing...)
Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers
The best cover of The Star Spangled Banner.

curious if you've seen Across the Universe? and if not, you should. smile

One of my absolute favorite movies.

I do like The Sound Of Silence done by Disturbed as much as Simon and Garfunkel's original.

This ukulele version of Body surfing is top notch, though.
Careless Whisper by Seether

Fairy tales of yesterday grow and never die
I can fly
The show must go on.
With respect to Richard Thompson, this is the best version of this song I've ever heard. A thundering masculine ballad, done the way it should be!

Cardiacs cover a kinks song.

Great Bowie cover.
Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal
Not exactly a cover but a pretty cool mashup. Some of the mixing on this has 4 or 5 levels of overlay.

I don't like the expression cover song which to me associates a song with one particular person and thus any other version is a ''cover'' and can evoke some sort of negative connotation (perhaps I'm mistaken). I think the most important thing is the song not who sang it. You never hear a comment like ''Sky have covered Bach's Tocata and Fugue in D minor'' I also note that this is a relatively new form of expression previously it was ''version'' which sounds less territorial and more egalitarian - music is for everybody and if someone does a song you've composed they're flattering you- irrespective of any financial consequences.
Saw Krokus open for Def Leppard on June 10 1983 at MLG. They covered BTO's 'Stayed Awake All Night' and killed it. 2mins 35secs in revs me up every time I listen to this tune.

I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever) was written by Stevie Wonder and Yvonne Wright and performed by Stevie in 1972. It is an amazing song and I LOVE his version.

It has been covered by at least 32 different artists over the years, including Peter Frampton, George Michael, Sergio Mendez, Michael McDonald, Macy Gray, Josh Groban, and many more.

But my very favorite version was done in 1975 by Art Garfunkle on his second solo album, Breakaway.

Original was by Otis Redding

There are so many so I just picked one I listened to recently. I've been hearing about a movie about her and am getting obsessed with her music.
