Interesting background music trivia. Back in the day, Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) were buds, but they had a falling out. Reznor wrote the song "Starfuckers" about Marilyn Manson leaching off of his celebrity in which he referenced "You're so Vain."

Anyway, on a totally different note (pun intended) - Loving this classic cover of Bruce Cockburn's Lovers in a Dangerous Time by the Barenaked Ladies. And the video captures the suburbs of Toronto in the 90s perfectly.

The song that got me hooked on BNL even though I do love their original stuff from that period, too. Still listen to them but I do miss Steven. He has a better voice than Ed and the songs don't seem to sparkle as much without it.

Holy Crap!!! I did not think many knew of both of these Canadian treasures outside of Canada.

Yes, both versions are amazing. BNL's even had some controversy over their band name. So silly.

They put their own sound and feel to the song, and I love them both. Great Selection for this thread!!!

Actually, Just A Guy and I are both Canucks (though I think he lives in the US) so you may be right.

Though I think BNL did try to crack the US market with a bit of success at one point.

Yes, they did have some success in the US. I remember that. Just like Bryan Adams, Loverboy, Red Rider, Rush,

A few have covered Abba and added their own twist but this is just so damn dark and haunting it makes the cover superbly original imo.

Faouzia is an up and coming singer born in Morocco and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba (a hotbed of great Canadian music, believe it or not). I first came across her this summer performing with Whitehorse, a Canadian duo I quite like, but she has been posting covers on Youtube for a few years. This one of Adele's hit "Hello" is one of the best and the material suits Faouzia's voice beautifully.



Best news is that she is also an accomplished songwriter with some big awards under her belt and has a record deal. She is gradually putting out original material as she works towards her first full album. She's also signed with the US booking agency that books acts like Coldplay and Ed Sheeran so I imagine the Americans will be getting a look at her before too long.

And all that at 17 years old.

"Knocking' On Heaven's Door" was originally created by Bob Dylan. I do love the Gun's N' Roses version very much but I prefer the Dylan version more.

Sorry, Dude, I totally disagree. The Molly Hatchett version is a hatchet job, an aversion to the ears in my opinion. Hatchett's version is way too cliche and lacks soul too me. Just my critique.
