If you celebrate Thanksgiving (United States, anyway), what do you love about it? What are some of your traditions? What food item do you look forward to the most? Do you "hunt" on Black Friday or Cyber Monday? Do you enjoy the hustle and bustle of the impending holiday season?

If you can't stand Thanksgiving, why?

Have a happy Thanksgiving in advance!

We adopt a turkey every year from Farm Sanctuary : http://www.farmsanctuary.org/giving/adopt-a-turkey/

S/he gets a place of honor on the table on t-day. This year, two of the turkey's are Anna and Elsa - looks like it's going to be a two turkey t-day!

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

In years past, Thanksgiving was always a holiday spent with the whole family (Aunt's, Uncles, Grandparents.)

But, as the years pass people pass away and the whole dynamic of the family dwindles down. Also, people move away.

So, now Thanksgiving is just a small gathering with my immediate family and perhaps my mother and/or brother-in-law.

But, we eat very well and I bake the most delicious pies. I do love to go around the table and have everybody say why they are thankful.

I also like to donate food to families who are less fortunate to be able to provide a nice meal for them on their holiday.
For years, I looked forward to my girlfriend and my younger sister coming home from college over Thanksgiving weekend. It was our routine for the past 8 years, me cooking and them eating. Overeating! No Black Friday shopping, just girl-time together. Now, everything is different. My girlfriend and I broke up last Christmas, my sister moved to NYC, and I live with 2 guys now! Sheesh! Turkey-Day will never be the same!

Wait... this is getting me curious.

Do you literally adopt a turkey, then kill it and eat it on Thanksgiving?

Or do you just receive a picture, then place it on the table as you're eating a turkey-free meal?

Haha, that's what I assumed, but the "S/he gets a place of honor on the table on t-day" kinda surprised me.

What would be the point to adopt a turkey if it was just to eat it in the end anyway? Plus, you'd have to kill it yourself.
Well, being a Canadian, we celebrate Thanksgiving in October. But regardless, it is always a family time. That is the number one favorite thing! It's always a good time, and I have a lot of things to be thankful for.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Its totally stress free (for me at least). My wife instructs me to say out of her way while she prepares our turkey feast. I am expected to hang out in the living room with family, drink beer, watch football and eat a great meal. I couldn't design a better holiday.

Black Friday? Friends have told there are some great deals but mostly it sounds like a nightmare.
My favorite part of Thanksgiving is getting all of the baking done the night before (in regards to the sweet stuff) as well as the prepping for dinner. And then my mom waking me up at the ass-crack of dawn to get dinner going. I definitely share my mom's love of cooking that was passed down to her from my grandmother, whom I miss dearly. I enjoy the cooking aspect, but I also treasure the long talks with my mom, which doesn't get to happen all that often being that I live so far away from her now.

There's also tons of family, which I love (unless they stay too long).

As far as Black Friday goes, I stick to shopping on the interwebz. There was one year that we were doing some renovating/redecorating/upgrading that happened to coincide with Black Friday, so we planned accordingly. Other than that, don't really take part in it.

We don't do a traditional turkey. We have started getting BBQ from a local place, but order our favorite BBQ sauce online. We'll fix potato salad, sweet potato pie, and one or two other dishes. Then typically, we'll go see a movie.

My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is spending time with my daughters and rest of my family.

OH, And watching "Babes in Toyland" aka "The March of the Wooden Soldiers". Been doing that since I was a kid, LOL

Girls always get a place of honor at my table when I invite them over... but that's below my table.
Watching movies.. I love watching Home for the Holidays on Thanksgiving day.
After everything is cut and before the first bite, feeling you're home. Hearing the silverware glance the dishes, sharing the cross-eyed look with a kindred family member. Having the new generation sit on your lap as dessert is served and sharing.
