Why do they do that?

The Grand National is a steeplechase, incorporating several very high jumps, and ditches. Each year many horses fall and brake their legs. Unfortunately, a race horse in such a state is often considered useless to owners, hence they are destroyed. It's all rather sickening.

Horses are put down humanely, and those racing horses live a pretty high life, I would know.
And some of my best showjumping horses have been ex-racing horses... Horse Racing is definitely not inhumane, they have incredibly tight standards... well those who compete internationally.

I'm sure the horse is very pleased to be destroyed humanely!!! I've no doubt that the process is as 'humane' as possible, but my point is that the Grand National has horses jumping particularly high fences, which everyone knows will result in broken legs, all in the name of entertainment. I'm not, in point of fact, saying that all racing or showjumping is bad. I'm an equestrian, so I do not have an issue with it per se.

By the way, I lead a "pretty high life" myself, but I wouldn't expect to be put down if I broke a leg.
And, as they approach the last, it's .... all gone dark out there. When we left the action, it was LushPrincess storming away from Gailxxx in 2nd, with Reeb holding off Charley for 3rd. Further back, it was Katalyst, the fast charging Trinity, Katie1984, Cougartalk, Vampchick and Rileysmiley, all jockeying for position. It looks like we're going to have to wait for the official verdict to come in, folks.
And, the crowds are gathering for the official verdict. Odds on favourite LushPrincess looks like a certain winner, but will it be a photo finish for the minor placings? We'll bring you the results as they come in ...
And LushPrincess storms across the finish line, with nobody else in site ... she's a massive 1400 clicks ahead of Gailxxx in second, with Charley coming in third.

Here are the top 20 results:
