I'm afraid of mirrors. it's not a phobia i just get uncomfortable around them. A) look at me and b) in horror films people are standing by a mirror and either lean over and theres someone dead behind them, they turn into something dead, something dead pops out at them, or they lean down and when they come up something is behind them. I hate mirrors.

After I watched Candyman I hated mirrors, and they make me uncomfortable too.

OMG me too and more so since that movie was an urban legend in Chicago......

When I was a kid, we had a furnace in the basement that had a logo of a robot on it. I had a nightmare about the robot coming to life one night. Scared the bejesus out of me.

What do you think accounts for the prevalence of the fear of snakes? I'm curious to know if that phobia is so widespread in societies that do not have the serpent myth.
I have a fear of heights, fear of being underground especially in small places - i'm fine above ground though. I'm also scared of something under my bed reaching out and grabbing my ankle. This is why i commonly jump onto my bed from about a foot away so it cant reach.

Loving this - Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - fear of long words.
I thought of another one. I'm scared of something/someone being in the bathroom and stabbing me while I'm in the shower and have the curtain closed so i cant see. Also, if i walk in a bathroom and the curtains closed, I have to open it to make sure no one is there
yeah I get that too sometimes
my biggest fear isnt hights its falling from hights dont ask why but if I know I cant fall then i'm perfictly ok otherwise im a nervous wreck

Oh my gosh me too! I have to keep the curtain slightly open when I shower.
AGHHHHH!!!!
You are bad Chef. LOL
I'm the same as HOD. If I'm up high and it's not secure, I freak out. When I'm on a roller coaster up high, I just tell myself that I won't be getting hurt; nobody dies every day on them. Then I'm ok and calm.

Double-M, you're getting spooked from the movies. It's all fantasy, written by script writers.
Can't hep it. LOL
What the hell chef!!!!!

I don't know what accounts for the prevalence in general for the fear of snakes but for me it was one of my friend whose brother had a pet snake and I went to vist her one day when I was in highschool and she said to me..."oh don't mind my brother's pet it's somewhere around here in her house because he lets him about every so often"

So I assumed it was a hamster or something to that nature and then I saw it LITERALLY (heh heh Roc) slithering under the couch in front of me and I froze and felt like I could not breathe and my friend was like what's wrong and I swear I felt my whole body shaking and I was crying but in silence and all I could do was point and she took me by the hand and took me outside where I proceeded to scream in hysteria.......I never knew until that point that snakes could have that affect on me and I NEVER WANT TO SEE ONE AGAIN!.......

Gives me the shakes just thinking about it!....lol

But see, the thing about that is you were clearly already terrified of snakes, because an unexpected turtle probably wouldn't have had the same effect, so that episode may have revealed your fear, but didn't really cause it.

I wish I had time to look into this some more.

Well I had no idea I was that terrified of them and also spiders for that matter but not as much as snakes....

this may help you understand because I wanted to understand my reaction that day as well....

That was one of my fears for the longest time! I wouldn't sleep with any part of me out of the covers, just in case.

Yup, i do. I'm a film student though so I kind of have to, and my imagination just runs away from me sometimes

This is my partner in crime. He doesn't like to walk on the tops of bridges that he builds before they're finished but he'll do this. He said he did it in the Marines and it didn't bother him there either.
Ataxophobia- Fear of disorder or untidiness. This is a fear and cause of much anger, in the weight room when people put the wrong weight on the racks ill go off. Atelophobia- Fear of imperfection goes with it i guess. And i think everybody has Anuptaphobia- Fear of staying single I know i do.
Forget who you thought I was, I'm The Chris J bitch!
Cool photo, chef. I'd love to be able to do that. I'm not scared of heights normally, but that's going a bit too far for me.
Its weird, I am scared of heights but I'd LOVE to do a sky dive!!

As someone said, its knowing if you're safe or not up there

I have a friend who saw a spider in my house like a year ago. She was over the other day and kept looks around. Finally I asked her what she was doing. She said she was looking for spider. Because the one she saw a year ago probably had friends. She then I saw a picture in my biology text book and flipped.

I happen to like spiders. When I was 5 I had a pet tarantula named harry that would sleep on my head.

On your head? What happened to Harry?

Yeah. I'm fucking terrified of what is going to happen to the world in 50 years when the people who grow up in today's education system and culture are in charge of things.

What frightens me is the "free-markets-will-solve-all-problems" mentality of those who WERE in charge for the past eight years. Give them another eight years, and there won't be enough of the world remaining in 50 years to worry about.

Right there with ya MM I hate climbing ladders but for some unknown reason I want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. Go figure. I guess even for a few moments feeling like a bird would be worth it getting to see things from their point of view. I so wanna sky dive.

When we moved to England I had to give him away....
