Interesting, most of them look so puffy and have terrible skin before hand. Not that I'm particularly surprised mind you.
As for the herpes thing, I've watched a few documentaries about working in the industry and in all of them they all pretty much said if you work in the industry you will get an STI eventually.

Not surprising at all, especially from the American pornstars.
All looked like they took one too many hits of coke into addition to the most likely contraction of an STI, and a job that likely kills you off slowly. Not exactly the profession to choose imo, if you want sanity and safety.
Wonder if it's the same for the international gals.

I actually don't think they look all that much different than the 'celebs without makeup' shots online. It's just that the 'afters' often involve 'porn make-up and hair' rather than red carpet makeup, so the change looks more extreme. Look up stars like Mila Kunis without makeup - she would easily fit into this group if you did her up all pornstar like with strong makeup and big hair as an after-shot.
If you saw any of these before-styled girls out buying groceries in their sweat pants on a weekend, nobody would think "omg that's a cracked out porn star with STIs"... Or at least I wouldn't. I see a lot of women that look like this with a ballcap and yoga pants running errands.
Not to mention these girls aren't models (otherwise they probably would have taken that career route). They're just average women with imperfect features and some skin flaws.

Maybe I'm not removed enough from college, but I saw hordes of attractive young women on campus with little, if any at all (particularly during finals when many people showed up in PJs) makeup and still looked gorgeous.
And with two housemates currently that are female, I see them early in the morning as well and they look like Aphrodite compared to the women posted who looked like they went through the ringer the night before.
Must be genes.

Yeah, I don't know. Age might be a factor. Some of those girls don't exactly look fresh off their 18th birthdays. Obviously a real bender the night before would also factor in for any girl (or guy). A lot of girls also know how to perfect the look of appearing like they're not wearing make-up when they are. I've had guys tell me how I look amazing without makeup when I know I'm totally wearing make-up - it's just minimal and neutral.
But yeah, I think a lot of it boils down to some girls are just better looking than others and don't have to do as much as far as make-up/hair goes to look good.

I agree with this entirely. Makeup, hair and clothes make a huge difference in the appearance of any woman, may that be to cover up a flaw or to add that subtle hint of sexiness (eg. eyeliner). We're just so used to see women with makeup all the time (subtle or glamorous), that we get this spontaneous 'eww' reaction whenever we see one without any. A lot of girls I slept with actually preferred to fall asleep with their makeup on the first time we had sex, and then tried to wake up before I did to make sure they looked decent the morning after (sometimes even subtly retouching themselves with makeup to appear 'naturally beautiful', or at least played with their hair a little to look 'unkempt yet gorgeous').
What's most shocking to me in these photos is the very bad skin some of them have. I'm not sure what's the explanation, maybe the heavy layers of makeup they put on each day mess up with their skin greatly, or they might just eat very unhealthy things. I don't think it has anything to do with drug abuse and the likes.
One thing that's honorable and should be mentioned though, is the fact that these pornstars willingly accepted to participate in these photo shoots. A lot of them are actually smiling and seem proud of who/what they are even without all the makeup people are accustomed to see them wearing. They kinda deliver a message that way : "yeah, the porn industry is largely built on fantasies ; we're actually average women with average lives behind the scenes".
One more thing that I like is that the before/after photos were taken the same day in the same room, just a few hours apart (as opposed to those paparazzi pictures who purposely try to show celebrities at their very worst). If I remember correctly, these shoots were organized by a makeup agency to promote its reputation ; the makeovers also took place at the pornstars' houses/apartments.
On two completely unrelated notes :
1) I absolutely love Bree Olson's exaggerated expression on her 'before' picture.
2) This pornstar totally looks like a woman I'm currently dating in her 'before' picture (with better skin and shorter/curly hair).

LOL, it's actually quite obvious when girls do that, but I usually play along with the 'naive guy' attitude. They usually bring their purses to the bathroom and stay there for like 10-15 minutes. Then when they come out they're still playing with their hair with a not so subtle 'I hope I look good' mannerism.
The smile they have when I finally say "wow, you look fantastic this morning". But I like to wait/tease a little to make it sound as if this observation is in no way related to their trip to the bathroom, haha.
