I've used a range of computers and don't know enough about 'the guts' of the computer to compare, but when it comes to Mac - the keypad has a slicker, nice-design for the hands/wrists, the screen is WAY better, and the platform is far more user-friendly.
I got a high-end compaq netbook two years ago as a lighter backup to my laptop and it SUCKS. The ten billion pop-ups are annoying, and every 35 seconds it's detected some new software to run or reinstall or whatever. Compared to Mac, it just has an outdated feel... like I'm using my grandma's computer or something.
And yes, I suppose I am technically in the "generation" that is Mac-friendly, but it's not a matter of being brainwashed. If people use both and are so willing to spend the extra $ to get a Mac - what does that say about it? It's just better. It's not bells, whistles or colours. My laptop is silver. If I could get the same user-experience with a PC for cheaper, I'd buy a PC. My friends with PCs have to get a new computer every year (sometimes every 6 months if they watch a lot of online porn). Macs last a lot longer with fewer problems.
Anyway - I'm not a techy type, I just know what I like and I've used Compaq, HP, Dell and Mac... but I will only buy Apple.
i have a Dell. i've always had good luck with them, as has Kate. I don't use it for games or anything really fancy. it's how i have my internet connection, where i store my files, where i write (microsoft word), and where i keep my few art programs, like photoshop and paint. If i did a lot more with it, i might like to own a Mac, but really, i'm happy with mine, and my last Dell lasted... well, i still have it and it works, even tho it's out of date, and i think it's about 6 years old now? that's pretty good for a computer, right?
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.
Programmer here.
I have a Windows 7 PC and a MacBook. There are certain things that I love about my PC that are have no equivalent in my Mac.
1. What is an application that you will always use no matter what kind of user you are? It's the file manager, right? Windows Explorer is just like a hundred times better than Finder.
2. Now something deeper. I might want to copy a video that was streamed to my browser. In windows, I can always look around and find the cached file, no matter what browser I use. Not to mention the many applications (most of them free) that will make the job extremely easy for you. This is just impossible in Mac. (NOTE: browser extensions, web services, etc. may not work with *all* websites.)
3. Tons of applications. Utility apps, games, everything is made for a Windows PC. And most of the times, when an application is available for both Mac and Windows, the Windows version works better.
4. Windows and the applications on it are easier to tweak than their Mac counterparts.
Said the above, I would like to add that there is no way one can just go ahead and weigh the pros and cons of Mac OS and Windows and decide that one is better than the other one *for all use-cases*. It's totally subjective. It depends on what the user wants, how they evaluate the way something works, and such. I have my reasons to like Windows more, but then you might have your own reasons to like Mac OS more.
EDIT: I'll tell you the latest instance when my Windows PC proved better than my MacBook. I had a lot of picture files stored in a USB hard drive. I knew there were a hell lot of duplicate images. I used ACDSee to find the duplicates and delete them in my Windows machine. In Mac, ACDSee didn't have that feature; Duplicate Finder came as a separate application. And then it wouldn't show the USB HD in the browse dialog. There isn't even a decent picture manager application for Mac OS.
For work such as email, and office - i use PC.
For all of my digital fun and creativity - MAC
I've been using a mac for around 2 years now and so far it's made my life a lot more simple with a lot of tasks like Photo viewing, Syncing my iPhone, as well as university projects.
If you're going to use the laptop for everyday tasks, Photoshop creative stuff in general I'd say go with a Mac as it's a lot easier to use. But also keep in mind most services/apps will be dumbed down versions from the pc version and of course the giant price difference between a Mac and a Pc.
But this is just my opinion on what I like about using a Mac. And after having used a pc for a while I have to say switching to a Mac was one of the best decision's I've made.
A loyal Mac user for 10 years.
Nothing is as easy to operate and navigate than on an intuitive MAC
"The Gods that smiled when you were born
are laughing now."
I always find this debate fun. Where ever you see it you will always find my Apple fanboys than PC fanboys.
Apple people will always claim that their machines are so much better than the equivilent PC's, yet as has been demonstrated before they use 95% of the same components and only the OS system is different. Personel choice is then king, just make sure to get the right edition of windows if you are a PC user
So yes, on the forums Apples will win out, but if you look at the real world PC's are still about 90% of the market depeneding on which statistics you read. Surely if Apples were so much better as it is claims Macs would be dominating offices the world over?
On saying all that, if you are in the Apple brand, you have an Iphone, you use itunes etc, you may aswell buy a mac just for ease of syncing with those devices.
I simply like Macs netter because they are easier to use, require much less trouble shooting, crash much less, hardly ever freeze up, and are just much more reliable.
I came to this conclusion after having owned both Macs and PCs for years, since I was a kid.
Mac is just better.
As for computer viruses those things don't just evolve. Some criminal prick has to create those. Whatever you use Mac or PC, stay current with your anti-virus and spyware software.
PS. The company I work for recently went nearly all Mac. It was a financial decision based on the extra hours and non-productive downtime we constantly had to deal with using PCs. Employee moral is way up. We are not a small company.
I don´t really understand why this debate gets so deep everytime. Apple vs PC. The bottom line is they are both going to be around for a long time to come. Each is better at something... I don´t think apple computers are better in every situations and PC are not worst in every situation.
For example, the bank I use in brazil has a site built to function on Explorer. I cannot do my banking correctly from my apple products, the explorer available for macs is outdaded.
My lushing is mostly done with my mac toys bc its simply more fun - more user friendly.
I believe the best way to go is to have both systems - this way you are a balanced custumer.
I'd take the PC. Hands down without having to think about it. And I know I'd not regret it..
When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser. Socrates I have always used a PC. I use several different design programs for my job and have thought about trying a Mac but havent made the switch. I really cant justify it as I have not had any serious issues with PC's. Two of my daughters have Macs and always tell me I need to get with the times!!
The reason black hats are writing viruses and malware for Macs is because of how popular Macs are becoming and all the free press Apple gets. Us Mac owners should have kept our snobby, duped, expensive, fanatically appreciative, satisfied and grateful, big mouths shut.
Let's talk about all those idiots who loved the Beatles in the Sixties. What a bunch of morons!
And Volkswagen owners? Those pea-heads actually loved those stupid, ugly, long-lasting, reliable cars!
But then, it isn't quality, innovation, design, and customer service that made this economy great, is it?
...What do you mean the economy isn't all that great?
What are you, a Hippie?
I´d pick the mac!
I could always go out a find a cheaper version of a PC to have for my non mac related work. with an apple product i would have to buy and ipad, since there are only pro models available now - which cost more.
I use a computer for my livelihood therefore I choose Mac.
