Actually I've done this quite a few times. Most flavors work great. I've especially loved licking mocha, strawberry, and double fudge chocolate off. I highly recommend adding chocolate syrup and whipped cream when licking ice cream off your lover's body.
The cold sensation against the skin is highly erotic combined with the warm wet tongue. It's especially fun to let the ice cream melt and chocolate syrup drip down into those naughty crevices and tongue it out.
