The administration and other story moderators can and do see which mod gives an RR. This information is also available to the writer in their timeline. I assure everyone that these are monitored and, rarely, Nicola herself has reminded the moderating staff to carefully consider how and when these are awarded. Rest assured that we don't hand these out in a vacuum.

To me; that is how it should be. I do not see any reason a third party should be made aware of what mod awarded an RR to a story that was not theirs. Why it would be so critical for a person other than the writer or other mods to have that information is beyond me, but I assure you that the drama it would cause would quickly put an end to anyone like me awarding one. We have enough scrutiny and necessity to explain ourselves in threads like this to invite that kind of personal second guessing.

Yes. I have given an RR which was removed by administration. It was a poem. I understood it, and it took a lot of effort to read, but I thought it was as good a poem as any written in the USA in the 21st century. I have been especially stingy with my RRs since, especially when it is poetry, which is very subjective. I know that it hurt the poet, but it hurt me as well, I wouldn't want to impose that on any writer. I should have had the poem reviewed and criticized by others before awarding the RR, I suppose, but I generally award RRs based on what I like. My taste in poetry leans toward the beat poetry of the mid 20th century, and French symbolism. I learned from this incident that I shouldn't try to impose my taste on others.

RRs are not awarded at random. They are not awarded as a gesture of friendship. They are one moderator's attempt to show the readership a story or poem that they think is worthy of the reader's time. I don't have time to read every story or poem on Lush, so my RRs are generally awarded to stories that I have verified myself, but any moderator can award an RR to any story or poem at any time. Any story or poem can be nominated for an EP. There really is no favoritism. Some outstanding writers and poets just draw a lot of readership from the moderation staff. Their chances of an RR are better because more mods read them.

Become outstanding. Become familiar to the moderators by writing good stories and poems. Read the Lush requirements. Proofread. A story which needs lots of proofreading is very likely to be sent back. I have never seen a story which had a huge amount of punctuation and grammatical errors which was of RR quality. Usually there are other issues.

Learn to write. Don't just send your masturbation scribbling in expecting it to be posted. Just because it gets you off doesn't mean it's publishable. Learn the craft. Even the best writers make some mistakes, of course, but they are usually the ones most happy to have them corrected.

These are my last thoughts on this subject.

I agree, 100%.
I'm sleeping with a moderator and even I can't get an RR.

Maybe you're not doing something right? That worked for me.

Well said. Recently I submitted a story that was sent back by Evie for a couple punctuation errors and one misspelled word. I was taken back a bit because I rarely have a rejection but in this case she was right on. I didn't proofread it carefully enough, which I normally do at least four times. So what you say is perfect. But... Even if a submission has perfect grammar, there is so much more to a quality story than that. It must engage the reader. If reading it becomes a chore rather than blessing, then it needs work. We've all written clunkers before. God knows I have.

My biggest pet peeve in reading erotica are stories that start off with the physical description of the characters. If the author does that, they loose me immediately.,

Is that what I should do? Cause I can't get one either. No matter how much I beg!

Can't i just put this symbol with my story??

(Umm...I would not 'RECOMMEND IT')

I have three famous stories, 2 recommended reads and have come in the top ten in two competitions~ Come in and make yourself at home.

I tend to be of the view that the Mods decide on RRs for a variety of reasons and if a story/poem doesn't meet a certain standard then an RR isn't given - which seems fair enough to me. Let's face it there are people who write on here that are particularly talented and the rest of us try really hard or just throw something on a piece of paper and hope for the best. The RRs that I have read I can totally see why they got it, it's blatantly obvious their stories/poems have more depth to them, maybe not obvious to some though.

I love to submit my stuff on here but I am totally aware that my stuff is pretty average, very personal and special to me, but not of fantastic literary quality. For me the fact that people from all over the world can read my stories/poems gives me a massive buzz, I don't aim for them to be RR worthy, it doesn't even cross my mind. I'm just grateful that I can put my pieces up and let others read them and comment on them. I would ask how many other places in our real lives let us do that?

I get a personal high, knowing that my words can be read all over the world. That is award enough, without people bellowing about an RR. My satisfaction, is when someone acknowledges my words. That in itself is my personal reward.

With my thoughts and words, I feel I can get my poem/stories across. I have written some stinkers and have written a few that received RR's. An RR must be earned and should not be an entitlement. To those that ridicule, (I have done my share) one must remember that a mod is WORKING pro bono, seldom receiving accommodations for doing so.

Yep, the physical attribute laundry list, always a bad sign. Reads like a football program: 6'3" tall, 244 pounds, played linebacker and defensive end at UCLA, redshirted his freshman year... SEXY!!!

A lowly forum moderator such as myself is not worthy to correct the mistakes of someone who gets paid to put pen to paper.

You're so audacious, my goodness.

LOL! This might be why the OP has never(?) received an RR..

Why are we still talking about this? (She asks as this post gets buried in the thread, as it grows longer and longer.)

Actually I was going to go with the University of Wisconsin, my alma mater, but for some reason used USC. Probably because UW could also be Wyoming or Washington. But for you, sure! UCLA it is.
