Don't believe everything that you read.
Quote by Beffer
I'm rather reticent about sending out FRs. I read a lot of profiles but seldom feel confident that they'd welcome my intrusion, so I rarely send FRs. There's an old Native expression: 'Don't go where you're not invited' that I live by. I carefully read everyone's profile when they ask me for a friend request and accept most.

i rarely send requests. however, i ADORE reading profiles! i often end up 'profile hopping'. you know, reading someone's profile and perhaps seeing an interesting pic someone posted and then clicking on the poster's avatar. repeat. i have never sent a request after reading a profile. my m.o. is to send a message about whatever intrigued me and try to start a dialogue. if it goes well, i may follow up with a request. however, sometimes i'm just satisfied having a pen pal.

Me too! I do a lot of profile hopping, and often after a witty quip on the Forums (probably how I met you, Nia) (and I'm thankful). And yeah, I don't chat with my friends too often here, but I am kinda into the penpal thing, via email. It's like sending letters, back in the day, but way easier.
Also, if I may defend the mostly-absent-friend thing: I don't black box or post on walls or interact with friends a lot, but I do like to keep tabs on what they are doing or saying via the friends activity page. We're friends for a reason! I am interested in what you are writing, or commenting on, or saying on the forums, or putting on your blog (especially blogs pix!), even if I don't say hi too often.

Long time reader but exploring more now. Is there a way to screen/identify seniors or is reading profiles the only/best way? Looking for friends over fifty years old. Not an ageist. I accept friends under 50 also.

I send out some requests, but I find that some people don't desire honesty.

I agree with you. Being honest may be one of the Golden Rules, but very few appreciate it. That is why I put a blurb about my dark side on my profile. If they read that and still want to be friends then cool. If not then it is their loss.
