This. It's neither illegal to sleep with a woman nor to give her money; in most countries it only becomes illegal when money is given in exchange of a sexual service. The way most escort agencies go around this law is to pretend that the sex and the money exchanged isn't related in any way: you give me sex freely, I give you $200 freely as a gift. It makes it rather difficult for the law enforcement to intervene and to prove that the law has been broken.

I've never hired an escort, but I know about some of the 'escort etiquette'. In most cases, the escort will prefer that the money is given to them subtly in an envelope; just leave the envelope somewhere and say something along the lines of: "By the way, before I forget, here's a small gift for you on the night table, just because I like you.". Then the escort can take the envelope whenever she wants and count the money at an appropriate time (eg. when going to the bathroom). This is a lot less compromising than taking out your wallet and going: "So, how much do I owe you for fucking you? You charge $200 an hour right? This was great, I might pay for your services again in the future!".

Many loopholes around it (and depends where you live). Some say it's the actual solicitation that's illegal, then also another loophole is that they're selling only their time and what goes on between consenting adults behind closed doors is no one else's business. So yah, many ways around it.

this. i have a buddy that used to be the driver for the local escort service. had a lot of good stories, that guy.

and also, one night i was in my apartment when he called me up to ask if i was busy. i said i was just watching tv, so he stopped by and hung out for a bit while one of the people in my apartment complex was with one of the girls. they finished early, so she came by for a little while too. it was surprisingly not awkward.

Here's a story I've wanted to post for awhile, but never found they right forum.

I took ten days driving to "see the USA" on my cross-country to attend graduate school. Of course, I as a student I was watching every dime. I stayed in the cheapest hotels I could find. In one small city (I don't even remember its name) in the Midwest I went to check in at "cheap hotel." The desk clerk (who actually wasn't behind the desk when I arrived) said his credit card reader was down. He would have to take my card to the business next door. He told me how much a room was and I gave him my own and only credit card. I waited. I waited.

Fearing that I just been ripped off, I went to the business next door. Inside there was the desk clerk and a woman. The woman was dressed rather fancy for a cheap Midwest motel. I retrieved my card and out of the corner of my eye saw two women in lingerie. I was so focused on getting my card back, it was not until I got into my room I realized I walked into a brothel.

I did not partake of any the "services" if for not other reason than my parents were literally paying my way to college and the credit card bill was going to them.
