hello lushies,
well ive come to ask those who play bass guitar players their thaughts and opinions on the bass guitar. whats it like to learn, that sorta info.
im contemplating picking it up for a new instrument to play and thaught it was a bit different to start with.
ive played the harp for a few years and the flute before the harp so im not entirely sure yet but im highly interested!!
thanks ^.^
Well i dont personaly play bass, But from what ive heard from my m8s, Its a awesome instrument to learn, And it has got that groovay sound going for it.

Id describe the bass guitar as being, The glue that holds the song together, Everyone listens out for that bass line for rythm and timing ;)

Why not give it a go and see what you think of it? And expand on ur already formidable, Knowledge of musical instruments.

Fyi Im a Guitarist/Singer/Pianist, So i have a outsiders view smile
...I started on bass...I played it in a metal band for the first two years...it's a lot of fun, and fairly simple compared to a guitar (or harp, i'm sure)...I have big hands, so I didn't have an issue, but be prepared...it's big, and heavy, and the frets are really far apart and you have to press the strings (which are also huge) down pretty hard...also, make sure that you get the right kind of amp and speakers...12" speakers that sound great with a guitar don't have the low end for a bass...you need either 10" or 15" speakers...also, be ready to spend some cash...strings cost $20+, so you can imagine what the gear costs...the last thing that I will say is the reason that I switched to the guitar...It's more fun...a bass is great when you're playing with other people, but it's kind of boring to play by itself...the same reason that I didn't follow in my dad and brother's footsteps and play the drums...having said all of that, if it's really something that you want to do, then you have to do it...otherwise you'll spend the rest of your life wishing that you had...good luck...let me know how it turns out
If it's classical bass as opposed to electric, you should get in touch with http://www.lushstories.com/bassman199

He probably knows about the horizontal version regardless. I think you need strong stubby fingers for either

great comment -here's more

Strings last a long while so don't let the cost of these worry you. Fender and Ibanez are two good electric bass guitars -don't know anything about the acoustics. It's true that practice with this instrument can be repetitious but there are so many cool sounds and styles you can work out. If you do pick it up, learn some cool jazz rifts which are really fun to play and these will help you further learn the neck diagram. Most people are not content to kick back and play rhythm, lack of limelight I guess but, there are tons and tons of guitar players and relatively few bass players. So if you can play bass, you're in demand : )
Torture the data long enough and they will confess to anything.
