You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

My prediction is that Trump will have a hard time adjusting to the hard work and constraints of the presidency. He is already in ethical trouble with his sons supposedly taking over his businesses. There will be ethics and constitutional problems, possibly criminal transgressions. He will make Nixon look like a boy scout. Braggadocio does not make policy or make it happen. He will disappoint his voters and American allies. He will lie and obfuscate. He will be bored stiff. I think he will not last the four years. He will either be forced to resign for scandal and ethical issues, perhaps even criminal behaviour, or be impeached for the same.

I feel the same way. While Trump may currently be popular among GOP voters, as led by Paul Ryan, he is not popular among GOP politicians. They may or may not agree with his opinions, but they certainly don't like that he is an outsider who cannot be trusted to stay with the program. He has not built any loyalty with them, nor do they owe him anything that might cause them to stick their necks out for him. The Democrats, of course, would love to boil him in his own juices right now. Trump has no friends in congress.

In short, to them, he is expendable. Mike Pence, on the other hand, is a golden boy to the GOP. The first time Trump becomes a liability, they will find one of those ethics issues or conflict of interests that I have no doubt he will commit and he will get dumped and impeached by a hugely one sided vote. Remember how minor White Water really was? Yet that was enough to impeach Clinton, though he wasn't removed from office. Trump will be, and its one low polling report away from happening.

Master of 1984 doublespeak. It is like "Alice in Wonderland". Up is down and down is up in Trumpland. All this about the number of people at his inauguration. There are no alternate facts, just lies. The pictures speak for themselves. Reminds me of the Groucho Marx quote, "Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?"

I normally don't like personal attacks but had to laugh when someone suggested that Kellyanne's Gucci outfit made her look like a doorman at FAO Schwartz (renowned toy store in NYC).

as a gay woman, you should be concerned about Pence's views on LGBTQ. look 'em up. here, save you the trouble.

he's in favor of gay conversion therapy
he's opposed to laws prohibiting gay discrimination in the workplace
he's was against repealing the don't ask don't tell act
he's against gay marriage.
he's against the directive for transgender bathrooms
he is on record as saying gay couples signified a socital collapse
he wants to defund HIV/AIDS funding
he wants to remove federal funding from Planned Parenthood

HE TRIED TO REDEFINE RAPE: Pence authored a law that tried to limit how and when federal funds for the practice could be used. Under federal law, the only exceptions for which abortion can be performed with federal funds is in case of or . So Pence attempted to change the definition of to include only what he described as "forcible ." That definition meant that federal dollars couldn't fund abortions in other instances of (for example, where a victim is drugged).

he signed The Religious Freedom Restoration Act into being in Indiana. the law made it possible for businesses within the state of Indiana to discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community based on their personal religious beliefs.

I really didn't know all that, and it makes me totally sick. You're right, I didn't look into his record and I should have

To add to Sprite's list about Pence, he has tried to make it impossible for women to get an abortion in Indiana. He is a religious zealot despite that mild manner and seeks to impose his views on everyone. He is not just anti LGBTQ, he is anti-woman.

the US it a power house. what we do here effects many other countries, and Canada has strong ties with the US. btw, is anyone aware that Canadians were recently turned away from our border? we've had a history of an open border for ages and suddenly they are not welcome to visit? all for fear that they planned to take part in the protest? that is not the country i live in. and girl, Trump himself is the one dividing our country. look at his cabinet picks, for god's sake. Devos as sec. of ed? Perry as sec. of energy? you are aware, i hope, that sec. of energy is in charge of our nuclear arms? guess what? HE didn't even know that when he took the job. Bannon?

for the record, he's already proving that he doesn't know what the fuck he is doing. when 2.9 million Americans gather in one day, not to mention the millions around the world also gathering, to make their voices heard, i think that's a clear sign that the division is already there.

and speaking about divisive, when was not the opinion of people from any and everywhere welcome on Lush? it's one fucking world, and we all have to live on it, and we'd better be willing to open our arms up to everyone and their opinions and ideas or we might as well just say 'fuck it'.

Sprite, I don't know how we wound up at war with each other. I know we are very close to Canada and they are like family. Literally. All the other information you've written here is good to know, thank you. All I meant was we have the power to impeach him. We do have a way to get rid of him, so until then what do you suggest? War? I am in agreement that we all have the right to an opinion here. I didn't try to invalidate hers. Was I a little snarky? Yes. Did she and I get into it over my snarkiness? No. She responded and I explained.

I'm glad you got to get it all out, and for the record I understand where you are coming from. You're angry as many are. I hope you and I can stop with the ugly banter. Not sure why you've taken such a dislike to me all of a sudden, but I would like to start over and be friends again. All this negativity is only causing grief.

I really was not advocating for Pence. If Trump is impeached, which is what everyone seems to want, we'd have someone with experience but I didn't research him and I should have.

Actually, we can in a way un-elect him. It's called a recall election. It's a huge undergoing but it can be done. An easy example is when California recalled Gray Davis in 2003. Now, we did get screwed with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but that's the risk you take with a recall, you might get someone worse.

Oh, yeah, I remember the Gray Davis thing. And, yeah, if we were to recall Trump, we'd get Pence. Maybe if it came to that we can get a two-fer, but who would take over then?

LOL! Subliminal thinking. He's an actor, Trump a reality star...come to think of it, Reagan was an actor as well. Mike Curb was Governer of California and had his own talk show. Jesse Ventura was governer of Minnesota. Wow, reality check for sure!

Paul Ryan as president of the senate and then Orrin Hatch as President Pro Tempore of the Senate.

I'm not sure there's much hope in this line-up.

You watch her interview with ABC News? She said she "didn't see the point" to the Women's March on Washington on Saturday.

When Donald Trump first announced he was to run for the Presidency Kellyanne Conway was riduculed in national media.
When she stated, on a CNN News broadcast, he was the only and obvious choice as the Republican Nominee, the announcers fell into fits of laughter and the ridicule intensified.
When she stated on television that he would obviously be the next President, I thought Whoopi Goldberg was going to die right there and then. The laughter continued.
She seems to have a habit of being correct does she not?

And she may be right in her assumption again, sadly.

This March was not inclusive of all women's groups. It was specifically for pro-abortion supporters.
It was supposed to encompass workplace rights, equal pay/job equality, the removal of sexism in the workplace...
Include social justice, an end to police brutality..
To include healthcare access, indigenous land rights, disability rights, LGBT rights, climate change...
And yes, all these were there.

Looking through all those wonderful things and checking against reports of the March in our media and the international media, what do I find?. Except for a few national newspapers, they are not mentioned, and then only in passing. What is mentioned, sadly, is that this was an anti-Trump march. An anti-Presidential march against what the marchers describe as an "illegitimate President". This is sad.

Perhaps Kellyanne Conway will be proved right again. I hope not, but suspect so.
We will know in less than 24 months.

Media headlines that I see vary from "Millions demonstrate against Trump" to "Worldwide demonstrations against intolerance after inauguration of Trump". And though it's clear, that many protesters are against Trump, it's also clear in almost every news bulletin I've read or watched, that the reason for that is, that they see Trump's attitude and the plans and views of his cabinet members as a danger for womens' and LGBTQ rights and social equality, for healthcare and education, and for the economy and safety of not only America but for the world it is part of.

So yes, it's often just called "against Trump" in the headlines, and of course for a number of demonstrators it was just that, but most media I saw do show those things you mentioned in their reports, if not in the text, then at least in the accompanying images.
A little kindness can be so valuable, yet costs almost nothing

In many countries being gay is a crime, and even in modern societies, politicians try to legalise discrimination. Your voice can make a difference. Have a look at All Out to find out how.

That 2.6 million people marched world-wide and it was completely peaceful. I think that will be the message that lasts, despite the strife that a few anti-choicers tried to create around it.

Is that it? Is that all we get for turning out? Oh I soooo hope not! There are hundreds of thousands of marches around the world every year. Most are peaceful. We certainly hear abut the ones that are not. We can trust the sensationalism of the media for that.

My fear remains, that we will be remembered as an anti-Trump march and slowly, over time, the issues of our rights, that we sought to raise, will be completely forgotton. I am not sure that is not happening already, but that is a media problem and sad for us.

I don't think the anti-choicers tried to create strife around the March. Yes they did come. Yes they were spat on. Yes one of their number was badly jostled while her placard was forcibly removed. Yes she was pregnant but yes, other marchers came to her aid. It wasn't all hate they were shown. There was quite a lot of support for them and 'thanks for coming' from pro-choice marchers. There was alot of love being shown and some hatred which I suppose shows the divides that still have to be overcome. We can't close the divide but we need a bridge.

Here is the bridge. Choice and the liberty to make it. Just as women choose freely to bear children for reasons that are their own, other women choose freely not to have a child for many reasons that are their own business and perhaps that of their physician. You have very right to choose as you wish, but not the right to impose your values and views on others. That is the crux of the issue. I would never presume to tell another woman what she should or should not do as I do not walk in her shoes.

I would like to see the energy that the pro-life groups expend be refocused on fostering and adopting children in the child protection system. These children are either unwanted or have parents incapable of taking care of them for whatever reason. If the lives of children are so important, take care of those who are here and parentless, many from broken and dysfunctional homes, victims of abuse and more. If you care about children's lives that is a good place to start.

Donald Trump is the reason for the marches worldwide. People, not just women, are not willing to have the clock turned back to the '50s and lose the progress they have made.

Trump is a narcissistic liar surrounded by enablers and charlatans. Steve Bannon is a racist, anti-Semite with a dystopian vision for America. Kellyanne Conway seems to need some Haldol for her delusional pronouncments: alternative facts indeed. Priebus and Spicer are GOP hacks. And then there are his Cabinet picks almost all of whom hold views antithetical to the briefs of their departments. This is "Alice in Wonderland". Up is down and down is up. Trump is the capricious and angry Queen of Hearts more concerned with his crowd numbers than paying homage to those who died in the service of their country at the CIA.

The marches on Saturday were wonderful, an expression of resistance and disgust with the new president. However, this is not enough. This energy has to be translated into action and organization in rebuilding the Democratic Party from the ground up, precinct by precinct, state by state to retake state legislatures and governorships and then the federal government. This resistance has to be as determined and loud as the Tea Party. The Democrats have to regain the trust of working class and middle class voters and motivate young people. So all you marchers and those who could not march, join the Dems, support the ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center in fighting any erosion in civil and voting rights. Start right now to impact the 2018 election. Marching is not enough.

All?

A march with women at the center that attracted over 3 million participants in this country alone, breaking records. And not a single report of violence? That doesn't sound like the hundred of thousands of other marches in either size or peacefulness.

The Day of Protests will be remembered as so many things. But mostly I think the huge turnout and the lack of violence, especially since this was a woman-centered event, will be the long-term message.

And, of course the anti-choice groups knew that they would create strife by speaking or marching. That's why they wore go-pro cameras when they marched. They expected push-back because they knew that they were pushing buttons and they didn't care. Selfish of them, really.

Yes they did encounter strife, but they did also attract a lot of love and support. Those that sort to abuse them were quickly sorted out by other marchers. I think their acceptance into the March supprised them, but it also proves a point ... that opposite ends of our spectrum can share common ground and promote same.

Someone's been reading Richard Dawkins (or do they both refer to another piece I'm not familiar with perhaps?):

Quote by Richard Dawkins
The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.
