Don't you get picky... giggles.. Eire is in the EU?... and you can buy this magazine in France and Suisse.

I just wanted to point out that L(l)iberal is just one of many tags you can put on it. Maybe it's just the Irish who come up with such horrible covers, yet you seem to immediately blame it on liberals.

The magazine is known, in publishing circles, as a bastion of the left, or Liberal/Democrat here in the States. I didn't decide that. I think it is on sale here too. Will have to check.

I see you've added a rather large part (relative to its original length) to your post.

Actually it may happen, sadly. If, as many here are, you are staunchly pro our current establishment [i.e. Democrat. Liberal, Progressive] then you will stop at nothing to destroy the current administration. The point is that those in power will never give up that power willingly and President Trump, for all he may be, is flying in the face of people soooo corrupt they just have to get rid of him. He threatens their income. If he is assassinated, I wonder which minority will get the blame?.

No. Some might, I'm sure that's true, but there's no direct line from being pro current establishment to assassination. Just like not all liberals find that Village cover good taste. I'm sure not all Republicans or Tea Party enthusiasts thought Sarah Palin's crosshair map was good taste either.

We've actually had an arrogant, cocky, flamboyant right wing politician, previously left wing (sounds familiar?), assassinated by a left wing killer here 15 years ago. And while many on the left were truly horrified by the thought that he might win the elections, it was just one man who decided to kill him. Still one too many of course.
There was not a minority that got the blame, it was the left in general: "the bullet came from the left" ("de kogel kwam van links" in Dutch).

Setting the coolness factor aside for the moment, we've actually had two Presidents who had at least attained Obama's level of education. Some people see a PhD or JD as a measure of intelligence. That's a debate for another thread. That other was Woodrow Wilson who was also a college level educator. They both had one thing in common, other than their Progressive political leanings. They both had no problem letting people know that they were the smartest person in the room, they tended to lecture those attending meetings rather than seek out their views, and generally had a "my way or the highway" approach to governing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodrow_Wilson

Wilson felt that negotiations conducted in The League of Nations would solve all of the world's problems and was caught completely flatfooted when war erupted in Europe in 1914.

I'll leave it up to the class to discuss whether either Wilson or Obama had the impact on world history that they could have, would have or should have had.
The people of The United States want socialism. The people of Venezuela want toilet paper.
A recent article in "The Miami Herald" reveals that the food shortages caused by the economic collapse in Venezuela have had at least one positive side effect. Whereas before Venezuelans were having problems being overrun by herds of wild burros (donkeys), they've solved the problem by eating them. Now they have no burros or toilet paper.

I am not sure that the Job Description for President of the United States of America states that they are to 'have an impact on World history'.

Job Description

The Constitution assigns the president two roles: chief executive of the federal government and Commander in Chief of the armed forces. As Commander in Chief, the president has the authority to send troops into combat, and is the only one who can decide whether to use nuclear weapons.

As chief executive, he enforces laws, treaties, and court rulings; develops federal policies; prepares the national budget; and appoints federal officials. He also approves or vetoes acts of Congress and grants pardons.

It's okay, the only chance he has to impact world history will be the fact that in a matter of less than a week, he has managed to alienate most of Europe, some of our closest allies since after World War II. He schmoozes and praises leaders with some of the worst human rights records. We have become a laughing stock in the world. His better than though attitude is absolutely insulting to the rest of the world and the fact that he thinks he knows more than anyone means he won't take advice from people that do. Soon, the rest of the world will just write us off, stop trading with us, stop lending us money, or just come over here and buy up more and more of the US. I think Putin is secretly dancing around as even he could not have dreamed how well his plan has worked. The US is in disarray, leaving Russia to go about their business without the tight scrutiny they had been under, at least without the portion the US provided.

All the leaks about the undisclosed meetings with various people in his entourage, before and after the election may all have been totally innocent, OR NOT. But either way, the cover-up is illegal, and in the end will be what undoes the administration. The recently revealed info that Kushner actually tried to set up a backdoor communications with the Kremlin may or may not be true. I would not put it past the Russians to make that call saying Kushner wanted to set up this secret network, and using Russian equipment to boot, suspecting that they might be bugged. Once the info was leaked, it accomplished two things... first confirming we WERE bugging their communications (which they will now change, thus making it harder for us to monitor them) and second, throwing the government into even more chaos.

Congress and the country are consumed with trying to find out who did what, when they did it and with whom, who knew about it and when they knew. In the meantime, NOTHING is getting done; every time congressman get a break and go home to their hometowns, they are being inundated by their constituents to explain their actions. The circle of advisors and trump appointees under investigation is widening daily. I wonder if any other presidency has has so many firings and resignations so soon after an inauguration.

If what you're saying is that you want us to go back to the kind of USA we were under Calvin Coolidge you might want to start by telling NATO to put on their big boy pants and start shouldering their fair share of what is costs to really defend the free world. The NATO treaty requires each member to spend at least 2% of their GDP on defense. They don't.

Oh, wait! Trump just did that!

Angela was not happy!

Neither was the perpetually outraged American Left.

Please, dont try and make out that I said things that I didn't. I'll try and explain this to you so you can understand;

Your comment regarding previous Presidents having had the impact on world history that they could have, would have or should have had promted my reply about it not actually being in their job Description to 'have an impact on World history'.

I said absolutely nothing, nor did I ever imply anything regarding NATO and countries contributions to it.

If you want to try and make a point about how brilliant you think Trump is, don't make out I said something I didnt.

Keep drinking the Kool-aid.

A bad experience at summer camp gives me the heaves anytime I get near Kool Aid AKA "bug juice".

Not to sound my own horn, but I once was a National Merit Scholar and some years after that I took the test and joined Mensa on a bet. Standing in a wine and cheese party listening to people tell themselves how incredibly brilliant they are gets old quickly. So my time with that self satisfied group was short and not so sweet.

Long story short, I do not consider Donald J. Trump to be smart. But he's obviously smart enough to head a big bucks real estate empire and get himself elected POTUS. He ain't stupid either.

I wasn't trying to tick you off. It seems like so many people on here have a hair trigger and feel insulted at the drop of a hat. Not surprising given the level of vitriol spewed on these pages from time to time. But that was not my intent. Apologies for any offense.

What I did mean to say is that post WWI and certainly post WWII, formerly isolationist USA became a player on the world stage. A war weary Europe was more than willing for us to take the lead and face off with the USSR. They didn't really have much choice at the time. And regardless of the official job description, POTUS became "leader of the free world" with the American taxpayer picking up much of the tab for defending our friends.

However, the NATO treaty does place certain obligations on each of the members. They obligated themselves to spend 2% of their GDP on defense. Most of them don't. The USA has to pick up the slack or NATO will fold like a cheap suit.

http://time.com/4680885/nato-defense-spending-budget-trump/

Perhaps if the others were carrying more of the burden of collective defense, the USA might be able to divert some of its resources to the universal health care that so many European nations have, and our Left seems to insist we should have as well.

I'd like to remind those reading this post that Lyndon B. Johnson insisted that the USA could afford The Great Society, standing up to the USSR around the globe, and the Vietnam War simultaneously. Guns and Butter at the same time as it were. The economic result was roaring inflation that resulted in 20% interest rates under Carter before it started to come under control. Let's hope we don't repeat that bitter lesson.

Bottom line, If Angela Merkel has to spring for a bunch more Leopard 3's,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZblvLxXEFdE

or a lot more Tornado strike aircraft,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panavia_Tornado

then perhaps the USA could close some of the bases we keep in Germany and divert some of that money to things we need to do at home.

P.S. The gorgeous young lady on your avatar has been edging for days now. I'm not sure if there is a female equivalent of the male "see your doctor if you experience an erection lasting more than four hours", but perhaps you could show her some mercy and let her cum?

Not even the part about how Kool Aid makes me gag?

Anyway, thanks for looking out for my finances, but I think Mensa needs the money more than I do.

Damn, I really miss this guy. Trump is gonna shit bricks when he hears this. 3AM Twitter meltdown on its way.

President Barack Obama in a nicely worded but obvious slam of the orange buffoon upon withdrawing the USA from the Paris Climate Accord, joining Nicaragua and Syria as the only countries in the world officially not concerned about the future of the planet.

There is a reason that Lavrov and Kislyak are laughing. If there were a thought bubble it would say, "Can you believe we got this idiot elected? He is now revealing top secret information to us to show off."
