That came in with the move to Lush2.

Now you mention it, it does ring a bell.

Never mind. I suppose I can still provide story comments as a specialist service for masochists. πŸ™ŠπŸ˜Š

I always look forward to being the beneficiary of words from you, Jayne. Especially relating to my stories.

I didn't know we could delete anyone's comments except our own. Hmmm. I don't see me ever doing that though. Honestly, I'd rather all negative comments than none at all. Indifference to my scribbles is the worst thing to me. A good bashing from a reader means you made them feel something. I hope the new scoring system will encourage readers to leave more comments. smile

I agree Kimmi. I did not know that we could delete comments but I never would do so anyway. I do not really see why it should even be possible for an author to delete something that someone else has written, good or bad.

It was always possible for an author to get a comment removed on appeal and following an inquest.😊

The three dots above right of the comment now allow authors to mark their own homework.

It's not the end of the world. Most social media sites have this facility.

Hope, as they say, springs eternal.

More likely it will lead to less, as readers punch ❀ and\or Favourite and consider that job done.

While the ability for authors to remove comments on their own may seem irrelevant or even repugnant to some, there are instances where not having to cut through red tape is extremely beneficial. An online romance gone sour, where you've revealed personal details that then get leaked in comments, for instance. If that happens at the wrong time of night, such comments could be available for hours after you noticed them when mod intervention was required. Hateful and racist comments. Attacks on other authors. Spam. There are all sorts of reasons why having the power to immediately erase a comment can be a good thing.

Fortunately, Lush has a culture that not only generates a high comment ratio, but also one that is overwhelmingly positive. That doesn't mean that bad eggs can't crop up. If it happens to you, you'll be thankful to have that instant ability to eradicate the offensive comment.

If someone deletes your comment, and you feel it was unwarranted, you have a simple solution. Don't read, vote, or comment on their work again. They don't value your opinion, so don't give it. If it's something they do regularly, they'll soon find themselves in non-interaction hell.

You have been warned..😊

I wondered what happened to the scoring. Personally I liked the old system - I could look at the score and decide if I wanted to read it. With the new system that's not available. Also this new scoring makes all stories good because there isn't a way to score a bad rating. Just remember - in real life not everyone gets a trophy - it has to be earned - just like the old scoring system - if you wrote a stinker it didn't get a good score.

My story with the worst score now has the best score -- I'm all karma bites hard.

Ah, but this isn't 'real life', it's a land where "everyone has won and all must have prizes"

If you don't like a story, just don't hit Like. If enough people agree and don't hit Like, then their score will suffer relative to stories that get a lot of likes.

This system prevents the problem of review bombing where one disgruntled reader or troll was dragging a story's score down with a 1 or 2 given out of spite or crankiness rather than based on the merits of the story.

And a lot of people were using 5s as Likes in any case, inflating the numeric scores.

So I think this system is reasonable. It stops review bombing and at the same time, is less inflationary by making 1 the default score for a Liked story with Favorite giving a second one as a bonus if someone wants to reward a story that particularly appealed to them.

And it is how I have wanted it to work for a long time.πŸ˜ƒ

Nothing new on here, but my entry in the latest comp on StoriesSpace took third place!
