Overnight we discovered a website which was doing something decidedly dodgy, and replicating this site exactly. If I hadn't looked in the address bar at the top of the browser (always check this!), I would have thought I was on here. The site has been shut down already, and that security hole closed.

That has prompted me to post about phishing scams, scammers can target any site whatsoever, so you always have to be vigilant.

We rarely send out emails here, unless it's for a newsletter, or you've requested to be sent one when receiving a pm etc. We will never ask you for your password.

Please be very careful when opening mail from unknown parties, especially where they have a link in the message. Often they can go to a site which looks identical to the original. It is quite easy in this day and age to put up an almost identical copy of any site.

I hope you find the following information useful:

Thank you for the heads up, Nicola... I haven't personally run into this yet,
but I'll certainly be on the lookout and inform you of any I do find.

Keep up the excellent work on this wonderful site. I won't leave here for
all the tea in China!

This brings up another point I'd like to make.

Official moderators will never ask you for your password.

Beware of anyone pretending to be one.
