Thank you. I think that very clearly states how it will work. And that we will need to manage things for ourselves.

Expect conversation groups named Lynn/Rob0001, Lynn/Rob0002 etc. from now on. Along with five years of historical messages all lumped into one. Bet you thought they couldn't make it worse, didn't you?

Oh Rob, you're so old fashioned! heart

You guys actually save 5 years worth of PMs. do you like... read them too? Like just spend a couple of weeks reading all of them? Or... this is such a strange concept to me, so i'm seriously curious.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Lol. Brutal.

I have 15 months of PM's saved. I can't go back any further as I didn't do anything on Lush but read stories back then. I didn't even have a single friend on Lush for the 1st 5 months after signing up, because I never interacted with anyone.

When I say I have 15 months of PM's saved, they are not saved on here. Before the migration I saved all of them off site, so as not to lose any. I am very much a hoarder. I hoard all my conversations. I have many files saved. So glad it is all virtual & not physical. I would be smothered if it was physical messages that I have saved. There are so many.

Just in an attempt to explain, friends have, over time, sent things I wish to retain - and later be able to find. The two ways are just different use cases. Some conversations are considered ephemeral, true. Others are not. And not every interchange with the same person is on the same topic. The point is not that one would take a marathon reading spree, but that one should be able to locate something of interest when desired.

has been mentioned here. I do not use it, but Trillian, which I do use, seems to be a relatively good analog of the way things are going to work here. its history retention is, for most users, fairly short. Anything one wishes to save must be copied. (Yes, I know about the paid version.) But there is no way of which I know to locate anything in its history.

Of course, then, why bother retaining much of a history - whether here or Trillian - if result will be just a chronological series of un-grouped messages with no way of locating specific topics?

Again, using Trillian as an example, I know how it works and use it with that in mind. The difference here is the loss of existing categorized items in the mass merging which will happen. Of course, I will be diligently copying what I wish to save, but I'd suggest making sure that the user community, especially the longer-term users, are fully aware of the limitations of the new system.

Previously we had mail and black boxes... mail had folders (which we were promised would return) and black boxes went poof after 7 days.

Then we got the mailbox and the messenger system. Although we eventually got our messages back we never got the folders and the messenger system was little better than to say hi, I'll send you a mail.

Would it not have been better to keep the email so we could have dedicated topics... very useful especially for things like helping people with editing etc. AND develop the current Messenger system into a style messenger... ie a proper IM system.

IMO this will make the entire messaging system worse, hell the current emails get soooo laggy when you get past a certain point that you have to start a new one... I trust that will be solved or the entire system will grind to a halt lol

Just a thought from an ignorant user but far too late as I'm sure this is well under development rather than at the "this is what we're thinking, does anyone have any ideas" stage.

Update on the messaging system after IT have been testing it:

Old messages will be migrated as they are, i.e. as individual messages with a subject, and when the mailboxes are migrated only new messages will be in the conversation style.

I just sort of answer PMs and if the conversation continues, it continues, and if it stops, it stops and at some point I go and clean out/delete anything older than a month - i started doing this after Gav told me that my PM folder was the reason was needed a new server. lol I tend to get a lot of questions, comments. and hate mail on top of personal corrspondence. plus all those dirty notes and pix that Nicola sends me when she's been drinking. ;)

That is reasonable. Thank you.

Just noticed the new messaging system. I'm very glad to see that old conversations are preserved in a meaningful way. Thanks to the Lush devs for that! Also love the fact that one's conversation partner doesn't have to be online to be able to send them messages, as was the case with the previous messenger, depending on which page you were.

At a first quick glance the interface looks very intuitive. I'm pretty sure that folks who are not familiar with similar chat interface will have little issue with this.

Two (related) issues though: images are not rendered and links are not clickable. In both cases the URL is shown as plain text. I hope that can be fixed (edit: I raised a ticked for this).

Well it appears to be another giant turd, no way to put things in folders, no way to reply to emails and cut my screen down to cell phone size. You guys are killing this site bit by bit. this is by no means an improvement. I even chatted with a friend who uses a phone and he says it seldom works right when he is on the app. At least I could see some of my friends with the old message window. You need to look at the old Lushstories code and see what they did to build the site, I see this one as less functionality and it still does reboot a lot. So pitiful for a IT group as big as you have to screw up this so badly.

Seems fine but am I correct in thinking that it is not fully implemented? I don't see a way to send group messages as promised. Also, the Wink thing just screams "dating site" and is really unnecessary.

What you're looking for is an email-style PM system, not a messaging system. Folders don't really have a place in a messaging system like this. If you don't like it, you don't like it and I am not going to try to change your mind on that point. But this is your opinion and no one, at least in IT, objectively screwed up that I can see. What we have is what they described above so the project delivered what was promised. I would prefer email-style PMs myself but this will work for the rare times I need to engage other users one-to-one.

Guess I should note that I was not unhappy with the original message system on Lush 2.0 save the inability to send group messages. Simply adding that feature would have satisfied me, to be honest.

Okay, found the Send Group Message function on desktop. Couldn't see it on mobile (Chrome on Android 12), though, but will check again.

EDIT: And found it on mobile.

Blk box was dope, but w/ this new chat system, there's no more from users, "what did my previous message say?"

It's all there. This is how it looks through forum.

I love it.

Some questions about the lifetime of posts:

How long will posts be retained? Until deleted by the user, or will they be deleted after a while, unless they are starred perhaps? In case the latter is true, will there be an option to star entire conversations?

Please could you fix the old messages that you imported into the new system as you have broke the images that now just appear as a text url.

Also I appear to have lost alot of old messages even though they were star 🌟 Ed, only have a few days of messages, the rest just appear to have disappeared 😥

Also how does the email notifications work? or has that been disabled? as I suspect most users won't want an email every time sone one sends a one line message.

Is it possible to send a message composed of text and a number of embedded images (linked to external images), or can you only include 2 or 3 links to my media? Finally is there a link to a user guide to the new message system? for us users who don't use other social media apps eg. , Facebook, ect. ect. and were quite happy with the old system.

I appreciate your trying to update your system, but some of us are going to need a bit of help to get the best out of the New system.😊

Never used , etc, but find new system very easy to use. I'm a clutter-free person who doesn't save messages, use folders, etc, so can't comment on that stuff. It does what I need, so satisfied Lusher here.

Thank you, developers.

Does each individual message within a conversation need to be starred in order to be saved? It seems that way.

If you want to send pics and gifs via messenger;

Select the camera icon at the bottom and click the "external" tab then paste the URL and hit "add".

This is the same as the original 2.0 version of Lushmail

Conversations, in the sidebar on the left, are lazy loaded. If you scroll down additional conversations get added. That may take some time, depending on your internet connection. So maybe you'll have to give it a bit more time.

I noticed it doesn't always work straight away, so perhaps you need to scroll up a bit again and then scroll all the way down again. That worked for me.

The previous messenger had a chime sound when a new message came in. It would be nice if that came back, preferably as a setting, as not everyone may like that.

I see that you CAN star an individual message (?) within the pile. So your question is pertinent as to whether they will eventually evaporate without being starred. Of course, that makes preserving a CONVERSATION extremely unwieldy.

The header envolope icon on my lush messenger is showing 3, which I assumed is nent to show the number of unread messages, but when I just checked the top 3 messages in the left plane, they were all showing the last post I sent to other users and NOT unread repiles as expected. How did you tell which are unread received messages? Also it would be great if we could have the option to use a similare GUI like that here in this Forum, eg. Bold, italic, underlined, link ect. ect.😄

First off, I applaud the developers that created the new messaging system. There are some things I'm not particularly pleased about, but they are insignificant preferences, not real issues.

There is one thing I would like to see, for the sake of user convenience. If a message thread, either in the compact interface or the mailbox, has an unread message, could you make the topic line in bold so it stands out? When I go to my mailbox/ message console, I can see that I have X number of unread messages but I need to scan through the list to see which ones have unread communications.

I cannot imagine the amount of hard work and testing that had to go into creating the updated system; I appreciate the fact that the Lush community and developers are so dedicated to maintaining and improving the site and community.

Am I a good witch, or a bad witch? History will decide

I just noticed that new messages do not always appear right away. I saw a notification appear that there was a new message, but no new message showed up. After refreshing the page I noticed there had been more than one new message even, the first of which was even sent about 20 minutes earlier.
