New Category...

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this post, but I was thinking how cool it would be if we added a category for Revenge. There are many who write those kinds of stories and I know for one, I love reading about them. So it would be neat to have it be it's own category.

What are your thoughts?

While I am generally an advocate for fewer categories and more reliance on tagging, I don't have a problem with the idea. Seems to be a fairly popular sub-genre though I don't see myself reading or writing in it. Revenge isn't very "erotic" for me, I'm afraid.

I agree seems more like a sub category. Seems to tie in perfectly with Seduction and Cheating, but not quite enough to stand alone.

I'm kinda on the fence here. While I can see the argument for a revenge category... to me it's more of a tag for a story. However, if the powers that be (Nic and the amazing Mod Squad) feel you have a valid point with this category... then I'm sure a few authors will either re-categorize their stories... or write a new one.

I'm going to think about this... then come back and vote.

Like it! It is a common theme in life and should be on Lush too.

I kinda agree with SirDominic here. Revenge is a whole theme like reluctance. If office sex or college sex which are mere locations can be a category, I don't see how revenge couldn't be a category.

That said, revenge could encompass all kinds of categories. Like bdsm or anal for example. Like if I were to write a revenge story and every sex scene was bdsm I would probably only tag it revenge and post it under bdsm. But if only one or two characters were bdsm related (like the gimp and the cop in pulp fiction) I would pick revenge as a category and tag it bdsm.

Though I respect the responses from those who have spoken up on this subject... after some thought... I must say no. However, if they (Nic & the team) agree with you (and on some level... I kinda hope they do) I will figure out a way to write a story to fit this or move one over that would fit.

I do agree we have a lot of categories to choose from, but that is the point, we make certain ones for a reason. I mean spanking has it's own category when that can so easily go under fetish, , and BDSM. I'm sure I can name off a few others that could fit into others as well. But I think I've seen enough Revenge type stories where we could easily have it as it's own. I do hope that Nicola reads this thread and adds her own thoughts on the matter.

I like the idea. I think we could use a harder edge and more plot driven theme. Anything that encourages us to go beyond the 'meet up and have sex for no particular reason' is a plus to me.

Yes, I agree that some genre's are similar and a creative writer can do amazing things even in straight sex, but I stand on my point

They are different enough I guess, to warrant a new category in their own right, if the demand is there.

I'm all for this new category. I don't think it has to be cheating on your partner. Maybe you seek revenge on your coworker who thinks he's top dog and you want to take him down a peg by messin with him sexually or something. I have a few ideas, but u get the point. biggrin

I really hope this passes and becomes a category.

The suggestion has merit, but my concern is when it goes to far? Just saying. My opinion would be no, too much room for abuse. But, like anyone else - that's my opinion.

As opposed to 'Hardcore' or 'Reluctance' and you'd be worried about Revenge? As long as people follow the Lush rules for writing, like any other genre, it wouldn't be any abuse. Because you can find that in any category. Heck, you could find that under or fetish because some people actually like to be abused sexually. Just sayin'...

It's so weird to me that so many people are voting no. Being vocally opposed to a new category is weird to me too. Like, how does it affect you really? What hardship is going to come to your life if a new category is added? Some people might be inspired by a revenge category to write something interesting and tense to read. Why would you be opposed to that? Just seems bitter and very odd. It really doesn't affect anyone negatively. It's not like it's some way-out there category either. It's revenge, pretty big theme in all mediums of storytelling that dictates the entire plot and motivation of characters.
