Mobile site refugees! What did you think of the main site whilst we were stranded here?

Well didn’t we have an adventure over here whilst the mobile site was down!

What did you think of it?

What worked well on mobile devices and what didn’t?

If it doesn’t work would it stop you using the main site?

What improvements can you suggest?
Well, I’ll start, I set up a chatroom so we could get together and I found chat really difficult. I couldn’t fit it all in the screen in my phone and had to keep scrolling. Skipping between whispering and talking to all was awful and tiny as a finger click rather than a mouse click.

Chatroom text was too small.

Forum just yuck - the font was too way tiny.

I kept on losing online messages.

In the end I could only talk to one person at a time so felt like I was being rude.

I was timed out of the room so many times and out of private chats.

All in all it’s great to be back on the mobile site, but the people over here are lovely and thanks to the mods who said hi too smile
All of the above plus lack of buttons without having to change sized or scroll to the top of the page , however it was a good temporary stopover -so thank you for that .
Thanks for the feedback.

Gav will hopefully be addressing the issues over the coming weeks.

I think he has plans to re-write our chat client anyway, as it's mostly the same as when we kicked it off years ago.
Many of the negatives i can agree with. I use a tablet and find it difficult, people on a smaller screen would suffer badly.
On the plus side, the IM is better on here than on the mobile site. The box is bigger and so much easier to edit for typos.

But the chat room is not good, and the forums very hard work., Not that I'm an avid poster

Thanks for trying though ! (who chose that blue background? , Not good)

Sorry - blue background was me - didn’t realise it would be as dark and there was no preview!
I have lived on both sites. I use it mainly from a PC so either is fine. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. But there is more of a community at the mobile site chat. Hard to explain, but it is more of a home than here.
I use a tablet or phone to view lush. The mobile site was perfect on that. Main site is still very difficult to use on a tablet or phone - even with the mobile friendly view. I was constantly thrown out of chats and I had to zoom in and move the screen around to use it.
Don’t tempt the lonely and perverse
I'm still a little confused about this site and the "mobile" site... Are they the same site? I get emails saying I have a message or request, but it's not in my mailbox here, but only on the mobile site??? And there are different friend lists?

Sorry, maybe being a dumb blonde :-) LOL

Just confused by the two. Are they going to combine eventually?
Elizabeth, in fact it has just been announced that the mobile site is closing down soon. Much to the dismay of the regulars there. But yes it was a source of confusion.

(That announcement appeared on the forum of the mobile site, from Nicola. I haven't seen it here yet)
I have been a regular here since 2012 and never warmed to the mobile site. I am not much of a chatter but love using forums. I did not like that I had still had to be in both places to participate in the forums since the forums there were completely separate from the ones here and a lot of my friends and favorites weren't there. And, really, the forum user experience there was not good, even compared to this place which is not exactly cutting edge forum software itself.

I did use the chat there more than here and a lot of that goes to it being simpler to use than here. I find the chat interface here a bit intimidating compared to the chat clients I use for work like Teams and Slack.

The main thing I would like to see here is an updating of the forums to make them adapt properly to all screen sizes (as Xenforo, IPB, and other modern forum software do) so I can use this on my phone as I do most of my other forum sites. Beyond that, the addition of some common forum features that are missing here (@ mentions, reactions, multi-quoting) would be nice. Mobile didn't give any of that, or if it did it was buried in the rather uninspiring forum interface.
Site suggestions, given shutdown of mobile site soon:

- make a permanent chat room called "Mobile Site Renegades Lounge" as a meeting place for mobile site chat users - or similar
- add cameras, but do not bother if watching for non-paying members is not there - that caused it to fail on the mobile site (at least for an X month trial)
- make it easy to post pics in profile and the post them to the chat - current profile pics you cannot get the image links to post them.

@nicola and @gav,

Is there a way to upload media More than 1 file at a time?

Also is it possible to add media to folder to have different subjects?

Finally... big problem on mobiles with private chats timing out, on a laptop/desktop you can run separate windows at the same time, but only a mobile you switch in and out.... so when you leave one chat it suspends and you lose anything said unless you’re holding that window open. That’s my most frustrating thing so if the timeout / suspension is a possible fix that would be a big win!

Will there be video and cam options in the new chatroom on the main site?
I expect not - we'll have to be creative to be bad smile
On the desktop site, can you only add photos and videos if you’re a premium user?
My main problem with the desktop site is that it is painfully slow to get into. It takes at least a minute to get the login box on my phone and then another minute to log in.

Quite often it just seems to be down. Right now I can see the forum but can't get to anything at all on the main site.

If the mobile site closes today as scheduled, this will surely only get worse as all the people from the mobile site try to log in here as well.
