I’ve been playing with the Notifcation API available with most modern web browsers. It enables us to publish a notification to your browser that appears as a native notification (like you might see with other applications on your device).
When you see a prompt to accept notifications from Lush Stories, if you choose Yes then you should see an echo of the black box message you receive from the Lush website.
Let me know what you think.
I saw the "pop-up" and clicked yes. I figured I'd give it a try. Looking forward to seeing how it works.

Looks nice. The way it works can have some unwanted consequences though.
For instance: I usually open Lush in a separate window in private mode, that I can hide behind a regular browsing window if necessary. I can imagine that more members do something similar, depending on where they are. These notification show up on top of every else, whether the tab that runs Lush has focus or not. So it essentially gives away the fact that Lush is running, even when that window is hidden.

I don't like it and have shut mine off. It makes just more attention to your screen.
You get the black box and then the notification box. Too many boxes in my opinion.

Not keen .. I have a Lush tab running but I am elsewhere and I get notifications of online boxes ... I get the noise so I dont need a pop-up in addition.
I responded to the request with a "no" because I had no clue what it was for. I'll keep it that way. I get too many notifications as it is. I do thank you, Gav, for keeping the site up to date. I did notice the added information now showing up on ones "my stories" page.
Good to see some of you find this a useful feature. I understand concerns over unwanted notifications appearing on your desktop.
I was toying with the idea of showing the persons avatar that is associated with the message. But then the thought of a masturbating daffy duck being presented to the other patrons of my local coffee shop has me doubting this feature.
Thoughts?
i think its cool especially if i have the sound turned off and in some cases it tells be if someone has signed in faster than the old black box way
Crashes my browser. BlackBerry Z30.

When visiting Lush in Firefox's Private Browsing mode this feature becomes pretty annoying quickly. There's no "Always Block Notifications" option in Private Browsing mode, only "Always Receive Notifications" and "Not Now". Choosing "Not Now" only seems to work for the current page, resulting in the dialog popping up on every page (re)load.

I agree, I dont have a privacy issue, its just damn annoying that the box appears every time I open a new page. I like to have control over what appears but I cant stop this notification Box. I appreciate that others love it but I dont want it and how do I stop it. As to clicking on the setting (the cog in Firefox), that is useless as it does not give you the option to add a site that you dont want to receive notifications from.
on my laptop i get notifications on the righthand corner of my screen. i click on it and chrome comes up on the page from lush/facebook or whatever i have set it to come up with.
