It's a topic that will appeal to pretty much everybody this time, and quite easy to write, compared with, say, the time travel one which was a challenge.

Also the 1000 word target makes it easier than the comps that suggest up to 5000 words. So I expect this one will break the record for number of entries!


My story is number 96 and there's more than a week to go still. So I'm sticking with my prediction that this competition will be a record-breaker!

Well ... unless my counting's off, we're sitting at 99. Who's gonna be 100? And imo, there are more than 3 podium-worthy, more than 10 Top Ten worthy, so join the comp! You'll be in great company inside or outside the Top Ten. And many of us read all the entries and we'll read YOURS and tell you what we liked about it.

This is a great, short comp to get your feet wet!

Does anyone know if the comp results are gonna be announced before or after the big move? I think it was originally scheduled for Sept 6, the day of the move.

I imagine it will happen after the move. It would hardly be the first time that results have been delayed on here.

The results are scheduled to be announced on the 7th.

I am waiting for the person doing the shortlisting to give me a Top 10, so it may be delayed a few days.

I have just received the Top 10, so giving the judges the usual 3-4 days will make an announcement on the 8th or 9th the most likely scenario now, particularly as the imminent site move is upon us.

Thanks, Scott! I know you understand! We combined software releases for the first time, so this upcoming install has me a little worried. I was project lead and lead programmer so I will be the one hit if it fails.

That was me not so long ago. Now that I have staff and am the department head, I tend to second a lot of these big projects. Our ERP system, though, is still my baby and we upgraded it last winter.

I think everyone understands that it’s a really hard time to run a contest, Nic. Finish the shake-down cruise, return to port, then figure out the contest. We can wait. The site looks nice, and improves daily. smile

We understand! Take your time. Maybe write an announcement of the delay in the homepage so we won't bother you with questions about it when you have something more important to do. Just an idea.

Well, I picked up my 100th vote yesterday ... on the new site! A first for me and I never thought I'd see that number on anything I wrote, so I'm grateful! Wouldn't have happened outside a comp for sure. Way more than 10 fab stories in this one. So, in or out, everyone find something to be happy about.
