I had to goggle six of those words.

Well, for the first time in a long time, I'm in.

I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I decided to write a 7 on 1 gangbang in less than 6k words, but it actually worked out.

Good Will ---|--- Three Alarm <= Both almost famous, give them a read and get them one step closer!

I just posted my piece, and the wordcount jumped up to 6,009 on publication, even though the count was an even 6K when I submitted it. Do I need to go in and excise 9 words? Gah!!!

Due to the irregular ways some programs count words, we allow some leeway. It's fine

I'm such a do-gooder, that I got it down to 5,999 (thank you, ChrisM, for getting the piece back up so quickly). I hope nobody misses those 10 words. If anyone asks, I can always provide the unabridged version.

You are such a good craftsman of a writer I can see you having to strain to find 10 words that weren't crucial to the story. Was it difficult?

It wasn't that hard. I whimpered a bit about two of them, but not the other eight. I'm sure there are far more that could have been cut. It was once said of Jim Michaels, a legendary news editor, that he could edit the Lord's Prayer down to six words and nobody would miss anything. Smut doesn't work that way, but I can always find a place to trim.

My hardest editing job was "How To Drown Out Contact Passions" for the magic competition. I wrote it on vacation on my iPad with no word count, and I was staggered when I downloaded it to Word and discovered the piece was almost 7K words long when it needed to be 5K. Now that was a tough edit. Hack! Hack!! Hack!!! It took hours. But ultimately, the piece placed 3rd. So the hacking didn't harm the piece too much. The hacking may even have helped!

The only comp I ever won (with Serious Moonlight), my first draft was 1000 words too long. I wrestled it down to size (with the able help of Layla, Ravenstar, and Mollydoll), mostly by cutting one long, pretentious, utterly unnecessary section. I would not, I am sure, have won the competition without the edit. Made it a much better story.

Looking forward to your story.

My 6 word edit of the Lord's Prayer: Lord's my Shepard, yada yada yada.
This competition closes in three days and there are currently no stories waiting to be verified in the queue. (Damn fine work by the story mods!)

Now would be an excellent time to get your entry submitted.
LOL I just came to the forum after putting a new story in the queue. ( Not for the contest. Already been there, done that )

So I've already messed up the empty queue that I'm sure was causing a widespread sigh of relief smile

I love chopping. I really do think it makes a story tighter, most of the time. Trading favors was close to 15,000 words. That was hard to get under 10,000, but I think the end result is so much better.

I'm dead in the water on this one. I have a vague idea and no plot. I think I'll have to be an observer of pure filth.
