From what I've learnt over the years, you can't get rid of any nasties permanently unless you boot up your computer in safe mode and run the virus programs then - the virus will just reload itself otherwise when you start your computer.

This is just my own $0.02 as someone who really doesn't care for Anti-Virus software...but incremental backups and your recovery media can quickly become your best friend. Just make a back-up of everything you absolutely can't live without, and re-format the drive with the OS disc. Kinda simple solution, and it's about the equivalent of using nukes to take care of a termite problem, but it gets the job done!

Very good point Arryn. I actually have an external drive I keep everything essential on for that reason.

I hadn't thought of that Rocco. Genius idea - stop outbound links from anyone who hasn't posted more than 10 times. Auto-spam will get stopped in its tracks. I'll see what my guy can fix up.
