Each has it's own drawbacks. Metal sometimes rubs and chafes the base of my cock and the base of my sack quite badly. We use both but prefer the metal cages as they stand up better to our rough play style. That being said we fly a few times a year and a plastic cage with a numbered lock is what we use as they are pretty much TSA proof.
