Hello!

As a new writer here (but experienced in other areas of life), I'm curious about how people typically promote their work. Do you post your stories on other sites? Do you use social media? Do you rely on organic traffic to your stories?

Thanks in advance!

Sue
Comment on the stories you like, and rewrite, rewrite, rewrite you own.
There are sections of the forum that are specifically for promoting your work, and there are a variety of other ways too. As has been said, comment on other writers' work here. To be honest though, I find the best way is to stay active in the forums. A link in your forum signature to the stories you are particularly interested in promoting can also be a good idea.
My Featured Stories
The Snowglobe Conspiracy – Solving a great mystery | There Is No Butterfly – Time Travel competition entry | Incurable Arousal – Most viewed | Toxic, But Not Sinister – Mutual loathing at its finest | You Were – An experience in the second person | Desiderium – A scattering of lovers
I don't know if promotion threads do that much good, though I have one, and enjoy adding to it. Same with signature links (though I do that too).
Commenting on other stories has always struck me as the best way to promote. Finding people who like the same kind of writing you do, and interacting with them is really helpful.

And like Mari said: rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. If you write a good story, people tend to notice here.
You can drive readership from other platforms such as FB or MeWe or or whatever you want. You just have to be careful to not post any photos or words that can be taken as pornographic. I have several pages out there where I post links back to my stories. They have worked well so far to raise awareness of the stories. I have had several re-link them on their pages and there are a lot of authors out there that will help get the word out.

As another newb I found this very informative. In one of the promotion forums, Jen said users need 20 posts to use links.

Just throwing it out there. I'm sure vets tend to forget triffle hurdles already jumped through. I really appreciate the advise.
