My Mistress
I have a mistress and her name is rum and coke
That is one person I won’t ever have to worry about my heart being broke
My more meaningful words that I have ever spoke
Usually came in a joke
The Fifth Amendment is what I shall invoke
As if all my problems where covered up by a cloak
Knowing I will have to deal with them sooner or later
For this brief time that I share, I couldn’t be happier
Although at times you have made me bitter
I’m hoping things will get clearer
But the alcohol sure is clever
One mishap and I will see the doctor
Feeling as if the walls are caving in around me
To let my sorrows drown is where I want to be
As if I’m looking at a bottle that is half empty
Her influence makes me silly
Needing you almost daily
To help me get through all this b.s. lately
When I’m under her influence
I can hardly complete a sentence
Let alone keep my balance
I may be a lost soul looking for guidance
As she courses through my veins, I’m losing my patience
To end this poem I should say thank you to science
